I want to pack my Henry hound away for storage, but it needs a spa session first. So I started on it today.

I bought this new in 2006, and used it daily at my mums for the next few years. But in that time it got filthy.

Here are the pictures I took on the dayof delivery, just over 7 years ago!

(Sorry for the instagram crap style, the sun was shining in the window and my phone got confused on some pictures)

Dyson should take note, this motor is the same size as a dc25 one, and as far as I know doesnt break for fun!

Inspired by the film?

From Henry Hound

Cleaned this up

The same people who make cambelt kits for cars! Buying one for amys car from these guys, so good to know this one is still fine!

From Henry Hound

Despite it's plushness the bristles are far too soft. Good on deep pile carpets, not great on very thin pile

Sadly that chip occured years ago releasing the cover to clear a blockage

and a nice pile of washing

and non washable bits

It's now all washed and drying. Will start on the main unit later.

Werll done! You strip vacs very good :D btw which dyson has the closest or identical performance as this Henry Hound?
Thanks

which dyson has the closest or identical performance

In my experience, there isn't one. No 2 models are the same.

Great job with this one, Sam, well done!

There's a brand new one on ebay now for £250ish. Bit steep since I paid about £130 for mine as it was being discontinued!

Put some of the turbo brush back together last night

Wheels on

From Henry Hound

put the two wires back through.

From Henry Hound

Greased the collar

From Henry Hound

Re-fitted the motor. I think I;ve got the brushroll holders back correctly, can never tell until its all back together

From Henry Hound

I think being screwed up pulls that together, cant remember though!

From Henry Hound

I then found Henry buried under a load of other crap. Remembered whilst doing this that he was the first machine I bought over when I met amy over 2 years ago! Amy swore at Henry when I told her this...

In a worse state than I remember, not that much dust last time I saw him...

Off with his head...

Cord rewind off

Will refit the cutout, it still works fine, and the chances of me using it to the point of over-heation is pretty slim!

Cable off

From Henry Hound

Motor in view. I;ve never used this bagless, so the dust is a bit naughty to see... Possibly to do with the old style filter it has, rather than the newer charcoal one. Not got a decent charcoal filter to fit though, so will stick with the old one for now

And all ready for washing!

And ready for re-fitting!

From Henry Hound

Will hopefully get it together tonight. The turbo brush needs some work stil las the internal hose wasnt dry, so couldnt fit everything it needed. Hopefully by tomorrow I can use it one last time and then pack it away and get some space back

Back together!

The wires were a PITA to keep in the right place during re-assembly

I didn't put half a ton of grease under the cord cassette though, so its a bit noisy in action, but that doesnt bother me too much for now.

From Henry Hound

Have a plan for sorting the state of the hood out...

And the turbo brush hose is dry now, so finished putting that back together

From Henry Hound

Quick test to make sure it still works

From Henry Hound

And then I noticed something thats been bugging me for years

From Henry Hound

Got a bit carried away

From Henry Hound

From Henry Hound

Picture turned out crap but the contacts were caked in sludge and fur

From Henry Hound

It's all so simple its almost clever! The brushroll on/off switch is basically a carrier that pushes the whole contact assembly away from the hose contacts!

From Henry Hound

More fur!

From Henry Hound

Well, it would be rude not to

Amy bleached the filter for me too, which now looks great and is in the airing cupboard over the boiler to catch the heating and water at 5am.

Nearly finished. I dont have any of the small tools for it in good condition anymore, ended up with about 7 sets and they all got mixed up/used/given away. Not too fussed though, bagged sets go for a fiver all the time will pick some up on payday.

I bet that one that went on ebay earlier today for £99 isnt as clean as this now!

You've done a brilliant job on that Sam! Really impressed! I would love to get hold of one of these! Do you want to do a trade? :)

As much as I'd love to trade it, I think I would regret it, sorry!

Put the hose back together, swapping it around as it had kinked at the tools end

From Henry Hound

Found the non turbo floor head

Amy kindly bleached the filter for me, so it was almost as good as new!

Top all polished

Not sealed and wrapped the box yet, need to find the tool convertor which I now I bought home, but cannot find annoyingly. But it's all bubblewrapped and boxed up!

However, I had a play before I boxed it up, with a quick comparison with a DC24. TBH Henry works better than it did before, can't wait to be able to have it as a main vac again, but then we have the Miele now. Aaaah, decisions for the future!

Bought some hepaflow bags home too to go in the box, they werent around when it was new!

Cute DC24, Well done on refurbishing the Henry, works like new,

Wonder how much its worth now :)
