HELP!

Today I bought a Hoover Tempo "HOOVER ELITE STYLE" from a thrift store and it seems to have a very noticeable grinding sound coming from the motor. Now I did check the fan and its not in the best condition its a bit chewed up, but I don't believe its in bad enough shape to make this noise being as laud and noticeable as it is. The noise is lauder on shut down witch makes me think its something inside the motor that's the problem. I would be very thankful for any advice you may have. Thanks vacuumland!

The bearings are shot. the grinding is the bearing balls rubbing excessively. You might be able to get away with cleaning any gunk out of them and regreasing them to keep it alive for a while.

Don't waste your time trying to repair that machine. No matter how much grease you place on the bearing, it is still going to make noise and be a bad bearing. That machine is just not worth the time, money, or effort. You will easily find another one if you go thrifting often enough.

Just my opinion since I never like to let a machine die....if you like the machine don't get rid of it, finding a used motor or even one of of Ebay is not very hard. I got a Eureka Bravo that had the same problem. I went to my vac local vac shops graveyard and found a motor and now it works like brand new.

Thanks everyone now I know what the problem is! I will be going to a vac shop near me next week and will talk to them about maybe finding a good used motor.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to have the bearings replaced at a vacuum shop? This Hoover is in MINT condition looks brand new and has all of the tools so I would really like to get it fixed and working like new again. Thanks.
