I am getting that hoover 800 on ebay, and It has a quite ugly colored brown bag, and I am looking to dye it a Black color.

Should I go about doing this?

Will the dye affect the white letters? (I think they are a plastic/ rubber sticker)

And how will I go about the dyeing?

Well, to dye fabrics I would suggest the black RIT dye sold in the laundry aisle. I do think it would also dye the lettering but discolor it at the very least.
I would reccomend that you leave the bag alone and use it as it is

Ill see

When I get it, I will decide if its looking good enough. Who knows.

its just that I am trying to get it look as original as possible. And well- the bag shows allot! Since the machine is silver and black, a brown bag kind of ruins the picture.

Did the pictures come out working?

Personally, I would not destroy a perfectly good genuine brown striped bag by dying it black, which will result in an obviously faked bag with discolored and likely peeled and chipped off silk screened lettering. That's akin to useing household interior latex to brush paint a vintage Cadillac with sunfaded but original lacquer. Examine the weave of the brown bag inside and out and marvel at the multicolored multilayer weaving process to produce that unique texture & pattern.

I would go to the fabric store, select some good thick black fuzzback upholstery moleskin and sew up (or have my Mom, or someone who can, do it for you) a replacement bag for display purposes, as I agree a black bag would look better.

You could even duplicate the bag graphics quite well using fabric paints and a steady hand. At least then it would be a 'genuinely fake' bag until an extremely rare one chances to come along.

Good idea

My mom is an excellent sewer. So I think this task will be an easy one for her.

Oh!! I could make a **fake** original!! With the white strips, and "The hoover" written in white!

Oh Im dreaming! Someone help me! Or wait, this would be a good thing!

Brandon, the picture below shows a Model 450 which was on eBay a couple of years ago. This is also the correct bag design for Model 800:

picture??

Hmm... All the pictures are not showing up on 2 of my computers!!!

Anyways, if you could describe it, I could tell you if I had the right Idea.

-The Hoover" with "the" in fancy letters

And 3 vertical white strips running down the bag?

Also...

...if you take a look in the "Owners Manuals" section, you'll the the manual for a Hoover 825 with a similar bag.

Given the Owners Manual version is an artists rendition, the pic above is most likely more accurate. However, I would imagine the actual instructions themselves are not much different for an 800 versus an 825, and your maid will be delighted to read all the wonderful things the Hoover will do!
