I'm finishing my rebuild of this Panasonic and I'm trying to get the foot release pedal back on. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone take pictures of their vacuum and post them? The pics I have before I took it apart aren't too good!

On the bright side, this dirty dog cleaned up GREAT! New cord, new light, new belt, motor cleaned, it just purrs!

This is how it sits right now:

I've disassembled and sold parts from at least 50 Kenmore uprights. You probably broke some of the plastic holding something in place. Also, you should be getting at these parts by laying the vacuum down and removing the four screws around the motor cover, if its upright and the back is gone, I think you've messed up.

Time to replace your vacuum. You'll never get that release pedal working again, plus its missing the filter exaust cover, meaning its just spewing dust into the air. If you have allergies, you need a new vacuum.

With these things, you shouldn't need to do much more than remove the lower cover and possibly motor cover to clean them out. Don't get to the point you're trying to force the handle release back on, by then you've gone too far, trust me. Once you take the handle release out, it often causes internal plastic to break so it won't go back in the same.

Start haunting thrift stores, find another kenmore. I see them every week. The direct drive ones are pretty damn nice. (PS, I could have looked it up using the model number starting with 116).

Spare time...

I finally have some spare time to work on this thing again.

My allergy attack happened when visiting family and the ragweed and pollen were very high. I don't usually have that problem.

I checked everything on the base and pedal and nothing is broken. I just can't get it re-aligned but I'll try laying the vacuum down flat on the floor like you suggested.

Also, it's not missing anything, especially not a filter cover. I took a careful inventory of everything as I took it apart. I don't know what you're seeing or not seeing.

If I knew it was going to be this much trouble I would junked the damn thing. I forgot why I haven't messed with vacuum rebuilding for years.
