Help needed....Westinghouse Upright vacuum.

Since "someone", (name with-held) decided he couldn't get this on the plane with him back to Ruskin Florida, I decided to drag it back to my house. While in my possession, Ter... I mean, "someone" asked if I would post some pictures of this machine and find out any information about it. What did the bag look like? Does anyone have a unit such as this that they could post pictures of? Particularly the bag and the front attachment cover. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The numbers I could get off the bottom plate are: Cat. (?) No. F-11, Style no. Y-4633. Interesting to note here...there is a grounding wire from the connection cover to a point of the frame. Yet, it is only a two-conductor cord.

I confess!!!! It's me!! You all know what a great guy Rick is and he was kind enough to take the machine for me. Chad brought this vacuum to the convention for me. From what I understand he found it on the curb. Two years ago when some friends were here another one of these was found which I also have. I just checked, Rick it says Catalog no. F9 Style, y4632 Serial no. 187LV no mention of a model number but I bet that is the same as the catalog number. This one has the same grounding wire that Rick showed a picture of. This one has no cover for the attachment port at all and there is no bag. Any help on this would really be appreciated. This is the very first vacuum that I remember my mom having. There is a funny story that goes along with it but I'll save that for another time. Thanks again Rick and to anyone else that can give us some information. Terry

This vacuum looks just like Lucy Ricardo's Westinghouse featured in the episode, "The Black Eye." After seeing Lucy's black eye the previous night, Ethel comes over to see Lucy to find out how she really got the black eye. Lucy is vacuuming. She stops vacuuming to give Ethel the "real story" and moves the vacuum aside but it remains prominantly displayed on the screen.

I Love Lucy was sponsored by Westinghouse at the time. Of course you probably already know this but I haven't posted in forever and I'm feeling rather chatty at the moment.

The bag for Terry's WH will sit sideways. The one at the convention had the bag sit along the front. I have a model similar to that one. The WH featured on Lucy was the more TOL version if i'm not mistaken. I'm not a WH expert. I think I can find a picture and will post it when I find it. I hope I can find it.

Also had one like this in 1 or 2 episodes.In one episode she was vacuuming the front porch and she told the girl that had a crush on Oliver "Mr Douglas likes a clean front porch".

I have one of these beasts ,a very good vac,and a lot of historical value.....did you know this was the first machine to be constructed of a material other than metal....Bakelite,Although it is 1000 times better than anything made today ,it still was the beginning of the end for super heavy duty metal machines...

I'll have to keep an eye out for the I Love Lucy show with that machine in it. I have a color television set now, so will look forward to seeing the machine in color.

Hans, Don't suppose you would be able to post a picture of yours would you? Seems this machine is becoming a "project" now.

Thanks for pointing that out, Hans. Studying the photos and with a vague stray memory nugget knocking on the Door of Perception I was going to ask if the Westinghouse shell is Bakelite.

Now I'm thinking almost the entire chassis is Bakelite and Rick, You Must Take Lots Of Pictures as you disassemble it. Purty Please.

Terry, you must post pictures of the other one, if you can. Extra Double Purty Please.

I am really amazed at the overall quality of this machine. I am dating it around the very late 40's to the early 50's. There is some true quality in this machine. Sorry these pictures aren't very clear, one of these days I have to learn how to use this camera!!

Westinghouse/Eureka ?

Guys I have to comment on how similar the base of that Westinghouse upright is to the base of my Eureka D272.
It is the same burgandy, with the side bag, but the handle
fork is low and molds to the shape of the body/hood. It is
from the same cica late 40's early 50s. I remember seeing
the Westinghouse as a kid in 53/54 (before I went to school)
at a neighbors house. I think I also have a vage memory of
seeing the in the appliance dept. of our local Dept. store.
(the Hoover were on the carpet and Home furnishing floor).
Any way when I found my first burgandy Eureka, D272 I thought
for sure it was a Westinghouse. Wrong ! My current one is in
running order, with Orginal bag and all. I also remember from
previous threads about Apex uprights, that look very simular
to both the Westinghouse and Eureka. Wonder if there is any
connection?? The one thing about the Apex is it has the snap
cloth bag cover over the bag clip. I found that interesting.
I just recently acquired a hose that fits the front of my D272
Some one asked on a thread this past winter "dose anyone know
what vacuum this hose goes with"? Anyway long story of connections but I bought hose. It came from St. Louis and it works, It
is the hose. Wonder if it fits/works with the westinghouse or
the Apex??
