Nice Kirby.

Looks like 1951 to me. My family had one, but it had a grey bag with a long V, and the logo of 'Kirby' on top. Wheels, trim and cord were also grey.

Alex Taber.

The name 'Caligula' is the cat resting on the chair.

1951 Kirby(511?) The year I was boarn-at the time I was born Mom&Dad bought a Kirby from a DTD salesman.Used the vacuum until it was lost in a flood in 1972.Been looking for one.So remember using the vacuum to clean my room for so many years-and my Stepmoms Kenmore "wheelbarrow" canister-a pink color-worked well. The attachments for the Kirby got lost at some point.

The 511 was produced from 1951-52. It was mostly similar to the previous 510 (1950-51) but during the year it had an improved front bearing plate assembly, which allowed the bearing itself to be replaced instead of the entire plate assembly.

The serial number on yours indicates it still had the previous version (with the non-replaceable bearing) dating back to the model 3C of 1940-41, but the newer style can be used too.
