Hello! After my grandmother moved I got her convertible 1030. It's a great machine and ran quiet. I want to be able to use it, but recently it's been vibrating and making noise when I turn it on and off. Nothing has been replaced in the 30-40 years shes had the vacuum, other than the bag and belt. I've tried replacing the belt and brush roll with the CWP and nothing. Is it motor bearings? I don't think it the brush roll, even though it's rusted. Should I take it to my local vac repair shop or would it not be worth it? Thanks!

I'm assuming it's not really running, and just making noise when you turn it on? If so, remove the belt cover and the belt, and turn the fan by hand, make sure it spins freely. Check for play in the bearings while you're there. Perhaps turn it on while it's upside-down and see if the fan spins at all.

If it IS running, but vibrating, try running it with the belt off. If that cures the vibration, the brush roll is bad. If it still vibrates, it could be a dirty/broken fan blade, or motor bearings.
