Hi all
Have to say I have loved reading all the threads on here and seeing all the pictures. Just amazing what some of you can do with an old vacs.
I have just got one off e-bay but it's a "chameleon"
After taking the whole thing apart the machine is quite an early one.
Yes it's been a Pink 652 serial JS 15757
Sad to say the machine only has it's pink pedal rubbers and cable grommet.
All the same have given it a good clean and replaced bits and working fine.

Serial

As you can see the serial is JS 15757
Sad to say nothing original much left on the machine.
Seems to have been made up of others a Blue bag and a Dark Blue bag off two different machines....
Works fine though !

Wonky Handle

Well this took some doing with the handle !
It was all bent over then had a brain wave and came up with the idea of using the broom shank to try and undo the bend!
Was more patience and elbow grease but worked for me !
Its not far off now and trying not to make the whole thing just spilt and break was a concern.
Have added a piece of round wood into the handle for strength and drilled holes for the bolt.

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for my first welcome James and I look forward to reading more on this site ;-)

Hi Tim! Welcome!

I've seen that senior a bit on ebay, glad it's gone to a good home! I was worried that the release mechanism was broken but if its just the handle then that's good!

I havea spare handle if you need it, not got the correct handle grip on however, and I think they are a sod to get off!

Brilliant outcome!

Boiling water

Thanks Beko1987 for the help if needed very kind indeed !
P.S pan of boiling water will shift the rubber handles lol
May take the paint off at the same time though ! :-)

hi Tim

i saw this as well glad you saved it .i have also had a couple of these with the handle broken at the bottom what i usually do is just cut an inch or two off the bottom and drill a new hole it hardly noticable once its all put back together however i do like your idea of the brush shank stuffed up the middle it will give it extra strength great idea

Great Idea

Hi Anthony,
Yepp had the cutting off the handle idea also.
Would have been my next stage if I failed with the other.
Funny how we people try and come up with solutions.
Part of the fun and enjoyment eh. lol :-)
Regards Tim

Welcome

Hi Tim and another welcome to Vacuumland.

If it is of any interest to you I have a pink hood suitable for your Senior cleaner. Its a bit scuffed here and there which is not surprising after 50 odd years of use. As far as I can see its not cracked or warped. Its yours for the cost of postage (its not heavy but it will need to go in a box to protect it), send me an email if you are interested, email address is in my profile details

Welcome Tim

Hi Tim and Welcome to Vacuumland!

Many thanks for posting the pics of the Senior, beautifully restored, when ever I see one it always makes me smile as the blue one pictured is what i grew up with!

Hoover made amazing uprights for carpet but always wondered about the lacklustre suction for above floor cleaning and why they left it the status quo for many years.

Once again, welcome and I know you'll have hours of fun reading the posts and pics

Welcome

On closer inspection it seems that your Senior has been somewhat fiddled with -Im suspecting it was re sprayed and passed off in the 1970's as being brand new perhaps.

6525C Hood with a 6525E bag - joe blogs wouldnt have suspected a thing I think.

But curiosly the 'Red Roundel' should be a silver trimmed burgundy roundel that was quite raised for a pink 652 instead of the later bright red foil roundel yours has.

Sneaky LOL!
