I am a "renewing old" new member of this wonderful group. Thanks to my friend Jeff Schroff's invitation I joined again recently. Jeff and I live about 30 minutes apart and have had not enough short "mini" meets at both places that never last long enough. I have learned a wealth of knowledge from Jeff. He used to sell Electro Hygiene's you know :-). And, he is the best hand polisher I know !!!!!

Even tho I live so close to Canton I won't be able to attend the convention this year unfortunately due to a family illness. Jeff and I will have to have a LONG "mini" meet when it ends so I can learn a bit of what he experienced there.

I am a collector of P. A. Geier and Royal made Vacuums, both hand and upright. I do have a new Eureka "retro" model 1950 I bought new for nostalgia's sake. It is a great machine. The latest addition to my collection is a Health-Mor straight suction model from ebay. Thanks to Jeff I now know the story behind Health-Mor. It has become another favorite in my collection.

I do have something I would really appreciate any help from the members they are willing to give me. I do not know how to date the older P. A. Geier and Royal models as far as manufacturing date goes. I do know how to date the newer models by their serial numbers. If anyone knows how to help me out here I certainly would appreciate it. Even the old Hand Cleaner models 157 and 501.

Another situation I am in is just like others of you. Finding genuine Royal, Electro Hygiene or other P. A. Geier made bags is impossible it seems. I have an outlet for DVC (bought out by Home Care Inc.) replacement bags. I have an interesting story about DVC brand bags I will write at a later time. I only have two vacuums without original bags but some of the ones I do have are not original to the models or are in poor shape. If anyone knows of an outlet for this need I have or has any bags they may be interested in selling, I would be much interested in hearing from you.

I wish all of you a GREAT time in Canton this year !!! I know I am going to be missing a great time.

Thanks again for any information anyone may have to offer to me on manufacture dates and bags.

My Best To The Entire Membership!!

Jim :-)

JIM, we have not had the chance to meet as yet. I have extended an invitation to you thru Jeff. To come visit my 50 vacuums here in Columbus. I hope the three of us will be able to mini meet and tell you all about the Convention.
Welcome to the club.
Your friend in Columbus.
Norm Brown
Do you and Jeff ever hear anything more from the former vacuum people we were going to go see?

Thanks Norm,

Yes, I have heard from her since she got back from Russia. I bought a couple of Green catalog's from her off of ebay since she returned. She brought a lot of "stuff" back to Atlanta with her when she left Indiana this time. She has a Royal and Electro Hygiene that are in pieces she intends to put on ebay. She will be back in Indiana later this summer or early fall and has invited us to visit her there. I am looking forward to that trip for parts. Enjoy the convention !!! Talk to you after you and Jeff return. Jim

The woman from Georgia

Hey Jim, nice to see you around here. Another Royal collector on the forums is always a good thing.

Now that I hear about this woman in Georgia I just had to say something. I have been talking to a woman with lots of vacuum stuff that just got back from Russia, which I assume is the same one you guys are chatting about. I've been trying to buy the Kirby model C that she has. I've been hoping to get it since late April. She says in her most recent emails that shes going to list it on ebay so I'm totaly out of luck there. I just can't pay those prices. The number of vacuums she told me she brought back was 50. She has some really nice stuff, but she seems unwilling to sell it outright, which takes most of the fun out of it for someone like me.

I'm sure you guys will have fun when you visit her.

Hi Jim, and welcome - or welcome back!

Did you see my earlier post about the vac shop in L.A. who has a very early straight-suction Royal? Check through the listings here if you're interested in pursuing it. I have a Super Royal, and the one that the vac shop has is even older than that.

Lady from Georgia

Yes, I am certain it is the same lady you refer to lux. She has also told me she only sells on ebay and at her Fathers home in Indiana where he had his shop. I have only purchased items from her on ebay. My last correspondence from her stated that as soon as she gets room in her garage to unpack things she will begin listing them on ebay. I truly hope we can go over to see her when she is in Indiana again. She has many parts in Indiana that she has no idea of what they are. Jeff, Norm and I will be like kids in a candy shoppe when we get to go over. She told me her and her brother had taken a lot of things to a landfill. I told her never to do that again because what she doesn't recognize as something of value is many times valuable to a collector. She also told me of a Vacuum Shop owner in Muncie that had a warehouse full of items. I called him and was amazed at what he has. Over 3 rooms of items from floor to ceiling and the rooms are huge. He doesn't like people coming into the shop to see what he has because he is embarrassed about how messy it is and is also in failing health. What I wouldn't give to go through his treasure trove!!! If we get to go to see Mary (moo13) this year I want to run into Muncie and see if he will let us see what he has. His basement and house are also overflowing. Talk about a collectors dream. We are only one state away from all of this "gold" and hope to heck we can get there this year. Norm and I were not able to go earlier this year when she was there so Jeff got left out also. We all felt bad about that.

No Charles, I didn't see that item until you told me about it here. I will contact him and see what the Royal is and condition. Thanks for the tip off !!!

California Royal

Hello Charles,

I have found your thread and am going to call Ron about it as soon as the time on the west cost is not sleeping time. I will post the results of my conversation with him. Thanks again for this tip about a straight suction Royal.

Jim

Hello, Jim!

Glad to see your post and thank you for the kind words. But if you think I do a good polishing job, you should see one of Michael's or Charles' restorations--mine doesn't hold a candle to either one of theirs.
And YES, you and Norm and I will have to get together sometime after the Convention and we'll give you a full report.
Jeff

California Royal

Hello Charles,

I called Ron just now and he is going to be out of town on a few trips for a couple of weeks but, when he returns will take some pics of this unit you speak of and email them to me. He told me you felt the handle may not be an original/wrong handle. I will see from the pics if that is so. Thanks again for the tip about this straight suction Royal. Best to you !!

Jim

Jim,

Welcome Back!!!

We have never met, but I can tell by the above conversations that you have been missed. To bad you can't make it to the convention as there are many who would like the chance to meet and renew friendships.

Royal and Electro-Hygiene are some of my favorite vacuums. Kirby, Royal and Lux would be at the top for me. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your collection.

Hello Morgan :-)

Thank You for the welcome to the VCCC. As soon as I get some organized pictures of my collection I will publish them. I do have pictures but to many to post. I need to get them together and take some group pictures. I will post the best I can take of them in groups. Thanks again for the welcome to the club !!
