Hi Everyone,
My name is Tracy. I went to a 3 day old yard sale on Sunday to pick up an over the door ironing board that had been there since the sale started. As I was leaving, I spotted a dirty Electrolux Super J canister vacuum. I asked what they wanted for it... $2.00! I had no idea what I was buying, I just knew I needed a new vacuum.

I couldn't leave it there for that little bit of money so I hauled it home because I have a 13 year old Eureka that sounds like a jet engine - it is running on borrowed time - but it has been a decent vacuum, even if it is a Walmart special. The Electrolux works, the motor sounds fine, the cord winder is fast, and the bag light comes on when I open the door. The only attachments with it are the double sided floor brush with the elbow to go on the wand, a lower wand, and a worn out hose. Oh, and a bag full of dog hair. I scrubbed it up and polished the chrome and it really looks quite sporty.

I covered the old hose with teal duct tape because I wasn't going to drop 30.00 to 40.00 on a hose if the vacuum didn't work properly. I just finished the test run and it runs perfectly. It is very quiet and has plenty of suction. So - I suppose I am going to keep it. But, here is the big question - what power nozzle does it use and how hard is it going to be to find? And my really stupid question: since there is an electrical connection on the current hose, is there power running through it when the vacuum is running? I'm really ignorant about this thing.

I love old appliances and am shocked that I have walked past countless Electrolux at thrift stores. I figured parts were non existent so didn't bother to even look. Now, I want the white and teal model L that is on Craig's List. This is going to be bad...

Everything you need to make your Super J complete is availab

They make vinyl hoses that are much more flexible, dusting brushes, crevious tools and floor brushes are still made as well, including power nozzles. I would suggest looking on Ebay or Totalvac.com. Ebay you can find new or used, Totalvac.com will be new.

You can find Genuine or Generic parts to fit. The Genuine will obviously be more expensive. You could also buy directly from an Aerus store, but they would probably try to sell you a new one....If you bought from Aerus, they would have to probably order the parts for you.

The hose you have has the electric running through it. To disconnect there are two tabs, one on each side that you push in and either pull out or put in the two slots until they click to connect to the canister. Sounds like you need a new hose bad, be sure your hose connector matches the new or used hose you buy. Don't buy a hose that fits the plastic machines, it will not fit. The older woven hoses always leak when they get older. There is a generic power nozzle and electric wand set that will fit your machine at a reasonable price. It is called Perfect, if you are looking on ebay or totalvac.

Hope this gets you started.
