I was watching the 1961 pilot episode of the Hazel tv show (see link to Youtube vid beginning at 6:50)--featuring Shirley Booth, Whitney Blake, Edward Andrews (succeeded in the regular series by Don DeFore), and Bobby Buntrock (d. age 21 in 1974; auto accident)--and discovered Hazel cleaning with what appears to be a Kirby vacuum cleaner.

Kirby fans especially might want to check this out and either identify the Kirby model or the correct brand as the case may be.

By the way, is there an ongoing effort to compile a list of movie/tv show vacuum cleaners? I've seen posts before but don't know if it's been on Vacuumland or somewhere else.

Charles, Alex, Dave, and David,

Thanks for the responses. As you can tell, I'm still learning about sweepers other than Electrolux. By the way, I saw a Hazel episode once in which she used a mechanical sweeper. It's likely one of the episodes on Youtube, but I don't remember which one.

Between what years were the Modern Hygiene vacuum cleaners manufactured--and how many models were there? I had never heard of them before this post.

Charles,

Re: Reply #10 Thanks for the Youtube link showing Hazel's Model E w/LX rug nozzle. I recently read somewhere that shows like Hazel are known as "comfort TV" (like comfort foods, I guess). I don't have a regular diet of them, but they are fun to watch from time to time--especially when appliances are included.

Does anyone know what machine was used...

..in one of the sitcoms from the same era that involved a lighthouse keeper who was vacuuming with a "Royal-like" machine and as I could remember, then carried it up stairs? Can't remember the name of the show, but I do recall the woman using the machine as being fairly masculine, or should I say, butch? She was a regular character.

As I recall the early Eurekas had the exhaust horn on the left side (opposite of Kirby and Royal) and bags went across the front of the handle. I think there was a hook on the front of the fan housing so the botton far edge of the bag could be connected to hold the bag in place. I had an older, maybe 1925ish Eureka, like that.

Hi Paul, 36 hours and counting.

I leave here early Thursday morning, and will return May 5 (28 years after the club's first meeting.) While in Indiana I'll get the paperwork, and organize the storage unit so the machines are ready to be packed in a truck and driven out here by a mover in late July. Tomorrow night will be my last viset to VacuumLand till I return. I don't have access to a computer in Indiana, and no email on my cell phone. But when I get back, pictures galore!

You're correct, DjTaylor

A clip to the oppisite side of the exhaust port hold the bag in place, and the bag was mounted in the front...

And I think I just solved the mystery!

A Kirby Model C (With headlight), But with a "Generic" bag mounted in place of the
Kirby's original Emptor and bag.I can tell you that is a Eureka Bag on there, I own a 1929 model, but with no Brushroll.

I could be right, Or It could just be an old Eureka.&#92
I'll wait for Alex to get back with his files.

-Alex.
