I found this video on YouTube a while ago and I actually really like it. In fact, I think it's overall my favorite central vacuum infomercial that I've ever seen. They no longer make these, it was depleted around the same time when Panasonic went out of the vacuum business. Back home I have a neighbor that has a grey 80's - 90's Hayden kit but she has a 80's - 90's Vacuflo unit with it and not to mention the sock hose with Vacuflo logos on it. The kit was made by Panasonic (Matsushita) and it's one of my favorite kits of all time, perhaps my most favorite of all time. I've never used a SuperVac unit before, I'm not a fan of the soft start technology but they've made a good point about it to make the unit last longer, and I thought the service indicator was interesting. I know it's not the most pleasant central vacuum to maintain since it's filtered cyclonic but I would still take these anyday over central vacuums with the inverted self cleaning filter. It's a shame the manufacturer ceased production because if I would've known sooner than later, this would've been one of my first choices to look into for a central vacuum.

My goodness only two minutes in and, we've thrown a vacuum down the stairs and a pile a vacuum's off the table. Hope they were ok.

This Is Fantastic!

I had no idea Hayden made a video like this. MD and Aqua-air had videos like this online for awhile, but they didn't include much footage of portable vacs, like the Fantom and GE in this video. For years I was convinced the MD SilentMaster was the greatest vacuum ever produced.

Hayden stuck with their Panasonic nozzles for a long time. MD still sells the Lindhaus "Stealth" nozzles introduced in the late '90s. Does anyone about these companies contracts? I know there are only so many power nozzle companies out there, but I was always under the impressed Hayden sold almost exclusively Panasonic kits.

There's still a ton of new homebuilding out here in Arizona, but I never see central-vacs in home listings. Were central vacs more of a 80s-90s home building fad? I'd love to have one later in my life, but it's going to be hard to find an existing home with one already installed.

Interesting video-the only one I have seen showing a central vacuum. With the emphasis on allergies---what about when the allergenic owner has to empty the dirt bin??This is WHERE BAGGED units are so much better. In fact many of them don't have to be exhausted outside. And the bagged units motors last even LONGER!!!
The shots of the Kirby and Blue metal Royals-these will clean your carpetes BETTER because the airflow is right there at the floor-rather than thru close to 100' of tubing and hoses. The bags for uprights have improved since that video was made.Take that Kirby or Royal over the central system for the carpets-the Central for other jobs.I used my bagged MD last weekend and like it like my Kirby-used my Kirby on my carpets first. My MD unit has the enclosed HEPA bag.I don't like having to dump several gallons worth of loose dust and dirt from a central system-replace the bag in mine only takes moments and you don't get dirty or breath any dust-no filters to clean or replace. Its as easy as changing the bag in my Kirby or Royal.BAGGED all the way!!!!

Bagintheback

I've installed 3 central vacs now, all in existing houses. There's no need to have to build a house or buy one with one already installed to get one. Buy whatever house you want and install the thing.

central vacs

You can even have the power of a central vacuum without installing pipes. Some central vac units have a utility valve on them, and for those that don't, attaching one to the pipe in-take is easy. Connecting a central vacuum hose directly to a unit is awesome, that is by far the most powerful canister cleaner you can have. If Hayden is still selling kits, I wonder what they are selling now since Panasonic no longer makes nozzles, this also means that the Centec nozzles are limited to whatever stock is left. In general, power nozzles are made by Sebo, Lindhaus, and Wessel Werk. I think Hayden also makes their own hose, it's called the super hose, though I'm not sure how it differs from the Plastiflex hose. Hayden also makes a lot of the wall valves that are used.

I also use my central vacuums freestanding.2 of them had to have a hose inlet installed-the rest use the utility inlet.nd of course you will make better use of the vacuum-the airflow is not slowed down by the plumbing. And less clogging, too. Its nice to have a built in system-but you have to be careful what you pick up.Long,or bulky debris can cause clogging.

There's more

These videos are also on YouTube, they've been out for about 9 years now. These short clips show instruction steps on the SuperSystem and how the vacuum works. If you type in SuperVac, these videos would come up. I thought this one was the most interesting one.

And this is The Ted Hayden Story.

wonder if they are still around?

Since those videos are older, I wonder if Hayden is still as big as they were back then? I think they are still making the in-let valves? Oh yes, using a hose directly connected to a central vac unit is awesome, I have 8 units around my apartment, including a vacumaid sr800 which uses the most powerful Ametek 120 volt motor, a two stage 8.4 motor. I wish I had a 240 volt outlet in my apartment, then I could get one of the really big two motor beasts!
