First of all, how long has this "contemporary forum" been on this website?

Humm.......you learn something everyday!

Have we discussed

I dont think we have! But i was wondering if its better the aerus or even miele the never one not the vintage model

Yes... it has been discussed.

It is a re-badge of an Electrolux Intelligence by Australian vacuum retailer Godfreys. If you have a look at the bottom of the website the copyright belongs to ICSH (International cleaning solutions holdings) This company also owns Hoover and Wertheim in Australia and New Zealand.

Its actually a lux machine , I have a few of them different models , not that great if you ask me , the hose is not well made at all and tears apart with ease. the aluminium shell dents with the slightest bump and the pn like the one shown on the main page of the website is not very good at cleaning or at lasting. we get these things in for repair far more often than we should . the electronics are also dodgy . the previous model , the one I have had no controls on the handle and no way of switching off the pn other than unplugging a dangling wire. they also start to smell after only a few uses even though they have a charcoal filter.

I got a chance to tryout the newer one a while back ( one pictured ) but they in my opinion are not worth what they are asking

If you look behind the back wheel you will see the silly connection you have to unplug every time you want to vacuum hard floors without changing the floor nozzle

oh yes, it HAS been discussed here

but unfortunately I am not able to retrieve the old link. While Electrolux mega corp has been busy to buy up all kinds of brands worldwide (AEG, Whirlpool Europe, Singer Europe, Flymo mowers, Husqvarna and what have you), the market has split into Electrolux shelf brands (AEG, Progress or Sanitaire in the U.S.) the top-quality door-to-door vacs went into "Lux" (braided hoses, high precision hose connectors and all that).
Lux Europe seems to be a Switzerland based company now, continuing all the good stuff of "real" Luxes.

Here's the old vid again of the Lux Intelligence vac, one generation later than this D810/D820 machine shown in the pics. (Both are very good machines.)
There is no difference in "Sauber" (Aussi Luxes) or "Lux" (Euro Luxes) branded machines, if those of Gareths's failed on him, they probably had had a bad hair day. It is one and the same company. The power nozzle shown is made by Wesselwerks (exclusively for the Lux brand), the regular Wessel brush has this more roundish and flat appeal to it, we all have seen it before.

See the vid for the latest vac model "Intelligence" (which I've posted before in the older, non-retrievable "Sauber" thread back then, the video is in Italian).
Our German Lux site is: http://www.lux.ag/

Still, it is all the same, my sister has got the D795, I have got the older Z325 and D770 and had had the D810 for a while. One brew, no second level derivates of all of these.

Lux International is a spin-off company of Sweden's Electrolux. It is a Swiss-based company that bought Electrolux's direct-sales door-to-door division. Sauber is the Luxembourg division of the company and has rebranded the Lux Intelligence as the Sauber Intelligence vacuum (I guess because "Lux" is too close to the name Luxembourg). Godfrey's of Australia must be importing this vac from Europe now....

Lux International is represented by Aerus in North America. Their website explains the background as follows:

1998
After many successful years as part of the Electrolux Group, Lux once again becomes independent.

The von der Becke-Family acquires the Lux Group from Electrolux. Lux International is founded with its headquarter in Zug, Switzerland.

oh, and that "silly" connection of the power brush

Lux EU sells both versions:

For those that intend to use the power brush just occasionally the customer can stick with the version shown in the pic: push-in wand connector socket to be released with that little lever (a hose cable going along and to be fastened with rubber straps).

For regular power nozzle users there is that optional electric hose and wand kit "K35": The cable is melted into the spiral hose, there is an on/off switch in the handle and some power wires go all the way down to the nozzle.

If you ask me, that is a good way to let the customer choose his personal way of power nozzling (is there a word like this? *lol*)

I personally am very fond of the "Turbo Clean" unit (a tubine powered sander just as Kirby's) but with more accessories to it and a better angle of attaching the hose. I was able to renovate the bathroom grout in less than 35 mins all over the place. Next point: You can use the Turbo Clean with the wand as well (polishing stairs, dry powder cleaning carpets). With the Kirby unit you hardly can do that.

Like I said - didn't know this forum even existed! Sorry for not reading it the first time - thanks for the postings guys.

That K35 option was not available on these machine's origionally , it was a later introduction after compaints

I have an older model as well , but like most thig old it works well , sorry to say but the new ones are rubbish , they use a mass produced motor available in many other cheaper vacuums that doesn't last , there build quality is not that good and the electronics like to fail . Lux decided to pull out of SA a while ago ( probably to many comebacks ) leaving customers with an expensive paper weight. we have repaired allot  and they are no better built than a mass produced aeg or Electrolux to you USA guys. The braided hoses are cheaply made and nothing compared to the ones of old. they constantly break and unravel.

I got to work on an aerus electrolux guardian the other day for the first time. You can't compair the two at all . the aerus is a quality machine built to last . this is just a cheap biult machine sold for a massive price.

the d780 I opwn is a much better machine , proper motor super suction and built to last.

I was looking into takeng over Lux sa at one time as at first they impressed me but when I started doing some digging they stoped impressing me alot.

What you have here is a AEG/ Electrolux been sold for Kirby money

The reason they use Sauber name here is...

that lux door - to - door here is actually Vorwerk... go figure, similar lux logo and they even distribute the bags/filters for the lux brand vacs that were from Electrolux.

Sauber is a ficticious name that godfreys come up with, to replace the highly tarnished brand 'wertheim' which now looks like it is in 'clearance mode'.

in relation to what Gareth has been saying, I agree! The most recent lux machines from lux of Sweden, aren't terrible but for the prices they were asking ($3500) they weren't a match quality wise for a kirby/rainbow which cost bout the same here.

P.S. The price for the Sauber Intelligence is $1499

see below for the link for lux australia.

Has anyone got any ideas between relationship between Vorwerk and LUX? I also noticed that Lux branded vacuum cleaners in Australia are Vorwerk machines when I searched for Lux vacuum cleaner related videos on Youtube. If I have understood right, Vorwerk is and old German manufacturer that has had nothing to do with Electrolux in the past. But after former Electrolux door-to-door selling division became Lux did they have some co-operation then?
