Handle spring on a model 519

Greetings all, I am Mike. New here, and looking for some pointers on my Kirby model 519. The handle return seems to be bringing the handle too far forward when the handle is released.
I see, that there is a small metal clip/wedge that is affixed to the side of the motor housing and am curious if anyone else has seen/had this issue.
I think this piece can just be bent inwards so it comes to rest in the cast-ledge that seems to be molded in the side of the housing. Though I thought it beat to ask before just bending things... Is there a correct fix for this?

Just tilt the handle all the way back and take a hammer and gently hit that pointy part of the yoke into the housing, don't hit it too much the pointy part will gouge the side of the motor shell. That should stop the handle from going all the way forward.
