Hey Everyone,

Does anybody have an original Handisac clip for a Hoover model 61? Right now, I have a chip clip on there! I'd really love to have an original.

Even if nobody has one, does anybody have a picture of what it would look like?

Thanks,
~Alex

I have a few I can part with

This is a NOS (New-Old-Stock) replacement clip that is in all ways identical to the original from North Canton. It has a "JAPAN" sticker on it which means it has to be at LEAST thirty years old. . . It has been quite some time since this type of low-tech part was manufactured in Japan. Now-a-days, if it were still made (and it is not) it would certainly come from China.

Please let me know if you're interested (click on my screen name then send me a direct e-mail).

Yours,

Marty Kaplan

Leave it to Marty to produce a reply such as that! When Marty does something, it's perfect to the smallest possible detail.

Thanks Marty! I'll send an email right now. I'll be happy to get one, the chip clip was just a temporary solution. lol.

Just out of curiosity

How many times can these Handisacs be reused? My model 61 and 62 both have aftermarket bags that take the later Type C, so I really don't know.

Handisacs can be emptied and reused multiple times (three to six times approx.) depending on how clogged the pores become with fine dust and the integrity of the filter paper, seams, etc.

Genuine Hoover Handisacs, aka type-W bags have out-of-production since the mid 1980's and, to the best of my knowledge, generic versions are long gone as well.

Because of this finite supply, we all, of course want to maximize the life of our Handisacs through gentle treatment and as many re-uses as possible.

When all else fails, I have successfully used type-C, bottom-fill bags on the handisac mounting system.

Two ways:

1) Remove the bottom two staples from the type-C bag and skooch it all the way down onto the handisac fill tube and clamp on.

2) If and only if your Handisac fill tube does NOT have a flange or inner metal lip at the opening, a type-C bag can be mounted conventionally on a standard bottom fill fill-tube and then can be inserted into the Handisac fill tube. If your Handisac tube is flanged at the opening - see option "1" above.

Thank for your reply Marty. It's a shame Handisacs are not more plentiful, and now with the TTI takeover, it's anyone's guess how long most Hoover style bags will be available. I know you are very resourceful when it comes to a retrofit. I have seen your restored Hoover 150's on eBay, they are beautiful. I would love to get my hands on one. Do you restore other models for sale as well?

Thanks Karl:

Yes, I've restored an army of Hoovers ranging from the vintage 1919 model 102 through the Concept One. I've also had my way with several pre-Classic 1CR Kirby's. That is the vast majority of what I've worked on over these past several years. There's also been a smattering of Eurekas, the odd Apex, a few Singers, GEs & Reginas. Most are uprights, some tanks, canisters, and sticks and several floor polishers. I also restore small appliances: mixers, blenders, toasters irons.

question

my hoover 29 has a cloth shake out bag.....is there a handisac setup for this machine....i saw a parts breakdown of the 29 and shows the handisac but mine doesn't have it

An authentic 29 is strictly a shake-out situation. The flanged mounting collar that is unique to the 29 cannot be retrofitted with either a Handisac or type-C mounting assembly.

I would advise against trying to use a handisac mounting assembly with a 29 shake-out bag. The bulky and angular fill tube and clamps would quickly wear holes through the bag fabric.

Here's my suggestion if you want to use a disposable bag inside the original 29 shake-out bag:

Loosen the screw on the metal bag band and remove the cloth bag from the flanged bag ring. Add it to your collection of rare and beautiful objects.

Turn bag inside out and vacuum it C L E A N.
Turn cleaned bag right side out.

Steal the bag ring/bellows/fill tube assembly from a model 63, 64 or 634.

Install this hot merchandise on the 29's bag in lieu of the flanged bag ring.

Mount a type-C bottom-fill bag on the fill tube, enclose it in the 29's bag and you're ready to go.
