Hair Dryer Bonnet

I remember as a kid that my Mom had a hair dryer bonnet that she would attach to the exhaust on her vacuum. I don't know what kind of vacuum it was. Probably a Hoover. But I'm curious to know if that was an after market item that she would have bought or an option some vac manufacturers actually made and sold themselves. I'm kind of wondering too if it was something my Dad would have rigged up for her. Or it could just be a figment of my very foggy memory! Does anyone know about such an item being available? As I think about it, it doesn't seem too smart. The exhaust on those old vacs must have been pretty dirty!

I'm thinking it must have been with a Filter Queen vacuum.

Dirty? No, not really. Remember FQ is the original Bagless Cyclonic vacuum that actually works and doesn't clog. And the air passing through the motor made it warm. I can remember my Mom sitting under it and my sister, too, with her hair tied up in rags for Sunday Morning curls.

Other Vacuum Companies offered a Hair Dryer Bonnet for their machines as well, tho off hand I can't remember which. But I've seen them in Owner's manuals.

I think the Electrolux xxx did at one point too i do not know where I have seen it but I could be mistaken.

Yes, Filter Queen DID offer a hair dryer attachment, i have one, rolled up in the original box,,,infact its never been out of the box! The hair dryer attachment had its own "Hose" so to speak, actually its just a plastic sleeve that has attaches to the exhaust of the FQ,,,the bonnet thing is at the end of the sleeve.
According to some old FQ literature i have, there was also offered at one time, a clothes drying rack attachment, that fitted to the top of the FQ, onto the exhaust,,,it was a steel hollow rod, with tines that folded out that were also hollow, with holes in them that let the warm hair pass thru,,you hung your damp clothes on the times, over the holes. Never actually saw one in person tho, so i dont know how well it actually worked.

My instruction book for the Air-Way 66 has a picture showing how to lay the Sanitizor on it's side and inserting the "S" wands in the exhaust end and then sitting in a chair and drying your hair.How bizzare! Until I joined the vac club I was not even aware the Air-Way could be used as a tank type. Ours was ALWAYS used in the verticle position and the the attaha-kit had never been off the machine although the attachment were never put in the attacha-kit. I was told the Air-Way was demonstrated to her in 1951 as a machine you put in the middle of the room and you didn't have to move it. She believed the demo!
Come to think of it,when my parents replaced the 66 with the 88 in 1964,the 88 Air-Way was NEVER used in the tank position either. It has the attacha-carrier still hanging on the side with the upper wheel coming through the attach-carrier as it was delivered new.

Electrolux in Canada had a hard shell hair dryer during the 1960's - you can see it sitting on the original box in this picture.

Rainbow had a bonnet hair dryer attachment. My sister had one, but never used it.
It was supposed to "Dry your hair with water washed air."
