I see you have a fusion

I HAD one. The piece of crap. Just recently died from to much dust through the motor because of the failed cyclonic system and it being non-hepa. Those things have almost as many issues as "The One".

And again...

the replacement arrived damaged in exactly the same way that the first one was...the handle release button was smashed into the main body. As before, I've extracted it and repositioned it, so it can be assembled and used as a carpet cleaner, but it's still essentially broken. It wouldn't stand up long if I used the hose regularly.

I phoned up to complain again, and they're sending me a third cleaner!! The stupid thing is, the cleaners they've sent already are 90% functional, but I'm not accepting damaged goods when I've paid for what should be a brand new machine.

Rolls-rapide - you might be right about the One coming out in 2005; 2006 was an estimate.

Some of the second generation One models, like the One Performer Mark posted the picture of above, have a toothed belt because they employ a separate motor for the brush-roll. The original 'One', and the later models such as the 'Performer HPer16' etc, have the ordinary Hoover flat belt.

Mark - thanks for posting those pictures; I agree the Infinity has a lovely colour scheme! I see you have an original 'One Performer' - what's that like? Does the 2-motor system work well?

Thanks for that. I'm sure it was 2005, because I seem to remember mentioning the cleaner to colleagues at work, and it was also about the time 'Dr Who' came back on television.

It seems that Hoover couldn't make up its mind concerning drive belt design.

Was there a separate switch to turn off the agitator, like Dyson's models?

You're not having much luck with the courier firm, are you? It must be the way the machines are packed: insufficient padding in the handle area.
