Greetings all,

I recently bought as a spare a late G motor taken from a working cleaner. I wasn't afraid to grab it because in the auction images the field windings were still bright red, so I knew the motor was never overheated. As it turns out, the motor sparks heavily. No orange sparks, and the sparks don't go from brush to brush, but there are heavy blue sparks. My DD G draws about 625 watts after running a few minutes. This motor is drawing under 600 and it's not coming up to quite full speed. The first thing I did was to clean the brushes and brush holders, as both my gold model L and my 1205 had sticking brushes when I first got them. It didn't help. The field coils measure 0.5 ohm each. What should the armature readings be? Or can someone say from reading this that I have a bad armature? (And if so, I need one. It's the 14-pole, 28-bar type with soldered commutator connections.)

Thanks,

Joel

I don't have one . . .

. . . and I sure can't justify spending $75 or more for a box of 6 for one motor. I'm not convinced it will help, as the sparking is no better or worse than before I cleaned the brush holders. Thanks for your input though.
