Good bye Dyson DC14

I am giving away my lovely Dyson DC14 blitz it. This has been a very amazing vacuum for me. It has withstood our 5 bedroom multi floored home, and hopefully it will last a long time in its new home.
It was used in my home since Monday 19th August 2013, till Sunday 20th October 2013.
My relatives will receive this vacuum, They have a very rough household, They had a hoover triple vortex thing, cord rewind, white vacuum, and it was crappy. Vax 121 had tape etc and broke. Now they have the Vax that looks like this: look at the link.
Now they will get their first Dyson, a DC14 blitz it with broken bin flap pins, She doesn't care as long as it works. It is a VERY VERY rough household, 6 teenage boys aged between 15 and 25 with mates coming over etc.
The vax they have in the link, has been dropped down stairs about 3 times, nothing lasts their house, they need a good vacuum. They live in a 3 bedroom 2 story multi floored house in Rochdale, Lancashire, so my Dyson will be moving from Brum, where it started to live, and now it will emigrate to Lancashire
I loved it, £16, and a new motor later, it was the best Dyson I ever had.
I will now be searching for a new Dyson, I feel sorry for the brummie Dyson.
My kind parents have purchased a DC07 Allergy for me, Bless them, I am happy, but I am sacrifising the DC14 for this family who need a long lasting vacuum, their vax is no longer useable!
Goodbye DC14, I will surely miss it, but hopefully I will see it again when I go to lancashire to visit my cousins.
What new Dyson shall I get? it has to be an oldie, has to be either an upright, or a TOL Dyson, or shall I get a Henry xtra?
I know Henry would be the best for them, but they want bagless. They asked me " Tayyab, how much shall we give you for one of your Dysons?" I said "For free."
Well I feel bad taking money off family!

If it's a rough household then the DC14 won't last 5 minutes. I know Dyson machines survive many test during prototyping and indeed with production trials of the actual machine when a sample is taken and tested, and yes, they rack up miles back and forth on one test rig, and dropped vertically from 1 Metre god knows how many times! But in a rough household, No. Your better off giving them a commercial All Steel Numatic NQS-250B if it's a rough household.

Dyson DC14, myy cousin used the exact model, blitz it last year february 2012, at his mate's house he said it was alright. DC14 is much powerful

This is what Parwaz should get for his very large family and rough cousins, its the Numatic NTT2003, and its got a capacity large enough for such a large family, and all metal construction:

Well said Root! We can go back and forwards when it comes to vacuum cleaner testing but the real proof is the real ownership and what people who aren't so clued up about vacuums let alone other appliances put their vacuums through.

Numatic would be good or for an upright SEBO's BS36 uprights. When both withstand general abuse in hospitals and schools, sometimes going for a commercial vacuum pays for itself in a rough household.

I think a Sebo upright may be too fragile for Parwaz's family, they do have a problem with the power cable entry point being fragile, and the brushroll would probably get clogged up too quickly. I don't think any upright would be able to survive being knocked down stairs or used blocked up for long.


A metal Numatic would be an excellent choice, with no brushroll to worry about and the only maintenance it would need would be emptying the barrel/canister, or occasionally unclogging the floorhead.


The metal numatics are used by rufty tufty builders and tradesmen, who throw them about in the backs of their vans and on building sites, so Parwaz may well suggest one for his very rough relatives

I was having a Rolly at work the other day, watching an autoglass guy doing his thing, and saw a very big nvq he was using to Hoover up the broken glass. The bin was almost square it had been smashed about so much but it still worked fine and sounded like new!

I don't know how "rough" a family can be with appliances like vacuums, but I've certainly unclogged a few Dysons in my time when it is required to clean up after 4 people in a family and 2 dogs. After all the amount of "clogged" bagless vacs you see on here, whether the machines in question have been dumped and rescued by collectors/members on here let alone classic vacuums like Hoover Juniors that have never been cleaned out, it is little wonder that ANY family, regardless of how many occupants they are, can and will abuse a vacuum cleaner.

My original point about saying that I wasn't too sure how long the Dyson would last didn't just cover that model completely, but rather reiterate the point that as collectors, we do treat our machines differently. I bet I can put a stake on those who have a daily driver and yet are careful with their machines, unlike my late mother who used to bounce our old Junior off skirting boards so much, there were many face plate replacements until the last one just got taped down with several layers of masking tape. She was a teacher. She had no time to clean home. She left that to me : )

Guys I will report back to you how the Dyson is coping when we go to visit or when they come over next time

But I say DC14 is okay because its one of the sturdy earlier Dysons, its a good multi floor vacuum, good suction, filtration, etc bagless and better made than a DC07

A Kirby might be a good choice. Or a Sebo. My Mum is VERY rough on her vacuums. I'm convinced she's trying to take the paint off the skirting boards when she vacuums. The Sebo Felix is surviving well and she never managed to break her old Kirby either.
