I don't blame you for trying...

The hose was bad, so why not take a chance on making it better and maybe learn something along the way from which we could all benefit? As Bob Dylan once sang, "If you ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose".

Absolutely what I have intended on doing. Now a really curious question is the hose pin out and if it matters at all? I do not suspect as the pig tail on the PN can be flipped around. However it has turned more into a salvage for usage at this rate than a restoration. However keep in mind that this hose would have been a complete write off in terms of providing power to the PN!

I have shortened the hose by 2.5 inches and the terminals I do not have so a solder job is being done. :)

Looks rough on the handle part but will eventually find a filler close to colour match.

Replacement hose

The braided hose won’t be any good for efficient cleaning. You can look on eBay there are often plenty of used OEM vinyl hoses for this model popping up periodically. There are generics too. Some here are ok with the generics but I like the OEM better. Some of the generics don’t work with the sidekick mini power nozzle. The golden jubilees hose with the direct connect handle was used on similar style models all the way through the late 1990s so there are plenty out there and Aerus still sell a genuine replacement if you want a new. They are vinyl now, the braided was discontinued in the 1990s due to the fact that they would break down from the inside out and leak after about 10 years or so.

If you decide to shop ebay be careful. You have to look closely at the ends and the hose handle if the handle has an electric switch on it on the underside it is NOT a genuine OEM. Only the OEM handles have a round dial on the underside for the suction control, generics do not, they have a slide control on top instead.

As other members mention, it would also be good to add the direct connect sheath and sheath cord to coordinate with the direct connect handle. It makes for a much nicer experience.

Your hose is an early version for that model. Most were sold with the direct connect handle. The blue 1205 had the same hose and handle as yours but in blue. There was an early direct connect handle introduced in 1968 when the blue 1205 came out but it must have not been durable enough and was changed quickly to the style you have. Engineering at Electrolux likely continued to develop it to be better and then when they were satisfied by sometime in 1974 they reintroduced it and it is still used today with the Aerus Lux classic model hose.

The bottom skid plate can be replaced by drilling out the rivers. Aerus likely sells a replacement foe that and can tell you have they refasten a new one. Also you’ll want to keep the old one as the serial number is on it if you are interested in having that number.

Not sure what those plastic tabs in your first pic are for. I have broken down many of these machines and never seen those. Maybe shims for a loose fitting top or something?

Motor looks great and very clean if you haven’t cleaned it.

Bags are still in production and used on today Aerus Lux classic and Lux Legacy models so they will be around forever and the style was first introduced in 1952 with the LX and used continuously.

I love the smooth soft sound of the Electrolux machines with the metal motors. In 1985 with the Diamond Jubilee they started introducing plastic into the motors changing the tone making them a bit louder and then eventually went to single stage motors which run at higher rpms and are much noisier.

The Electrolux canister is by far my favorite vacuum of all time for durability, flexible ease of use and serviceability.

If you don’t know how the automatic control dial works...I can give you a tutorial. A medium setting of 2-3 is considered normal. Higher number are only for temporary use. It controls how quickly the bag door pops open indicating need to check fir a full bag. It senses suction loss due to the bag filling with dirt. 1 is most sensitive, 6 is least sensitive but will allow motor strain as the motor will run with a more packed bag which is not recommended. Use 5-6 only to finish up a cleaning job if it’s popping open interrupting your job and then when done, change the bag and reset to 2. I usually reset to 1 and then when it pops open, check the bag, if not full enough and suction is still good I put it back in and go up to 2 then continue cleaning and so on. Usually by 2-3 the bag is full enough to change it. If you vacuum carpet use a lower setting as it will not allow the cleaner to run at reduced suction. For hard floors, a higher number can be tolerated as less suction is needed to thoroughly clean them.

Bristle strips can be replaced on the rug and floor tool. You have to unscrew the base from the tool and then pry the metal opens lightly where it’s cinched and then the bristle strip will come out snd a new one can be inserted. If the tool is beat up a replacement can be found on eBay there are lots of them. That and the combination dusting brush/upholstery tool are by far my favorite tools of any brand.

The sidekick is wonderful and a used one can be purchased on eBay for around $20. Great tool for couches and stairs especially if you have shedding pets. They came out in 1986/7. Designed specifically to work with the direct connect hose. There are 3 models you’ll need the “sidekick” not the sidekick II or sidekick III. Those fit other hose handles. The one you need is a very square shape overall.

Love the golden jubilee...my grandmother had one brand new when I was a kid....I’m 52 today....then it was her daughters after she passed and then went to another daughter and now one of my cousins may have it!
