I've decided to replace the brushroll since the old one is so grungy. Any suggetions of what I should go for? I see online that there are some that are all brush. Or should I go for all original.
I would normally say to go for the decade-80 replacement brush roll, but because this is a special Hoover I would stay original. Or you could aways replace the brush strips.
Keep the original brush roll and rebuild the brush roll. Alot of people think they are "helping" the value of old things when they change out parts or strip old wood and refinish it. The fact that it is grungy shows that the machine is old and original. If you put a wood brush roll (or garbage chinese replacement) in this thing and get rid of the original, you've ruined the integrity and the value. This is a RARE machine and really should be treated as such!!!
if you work out where to get some, could you let me know? I've tried on a few occasions to get the corrrect ones and keep getting supplied with those designed for newer machines. They spiral the wrong way (r/h instead of l/h helix) and won't slide in. I believe the original Hoover part number is 12998BZ - perhaps somebody else could verify this to make sure you ask for the right part. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And I agree absolutely with everybody else here ... keep that machine in as original condition as you can manage - that will always be part of its allure.
