I sent a gold model L electrolux motor to a customer and it was two long for his white body model L.Does anyone know for sure if the gold model L had a bigger motor than the previous blue and white models?

I don't know ... I always assumed all the Model Ls had the same motor. The housing is the same in all of them and, presumably, the mounting hardware.

Model L Motor

Hey Richard,

To my knowledge, the Model L, which was sold from 1963 until 1978 or so, came with the same exact motor throughout its entire run. The body of all the Ls I have seen have been the exact same length, and having rebuilt a few of them myself, I can tell you that there is no room for a larger motor in that size body.

Perhaps the person you sold the motor to disassembled it, and wasn't able to put it back together properly? The blower assembly can be tricky to reassemble if you've never taken one apart before.

Just as an aside, did your customer send the motor back to you? I may be in need of one, as I hope to get another model L quite soon. Once I test out the motor in the one I'm getting, I will know whether or not I will need a replacement motor. :-)

His model L

My customer's model L looked like a rebuilt version perhaps not by electrolux, perhaps something was modified in the body.Anyhow I had a CB motor that I sent him in exchange and it fit.

I checked with an Electrolux expert and he confirmed what I thought -- that all Model L motors were the same, or at least, had the same mounts. So if you have an L motor that would not fit someone's L, and you are =sure= it's an L motor, then they were trying to install it wrong somehow. (e.g., the motor goes in the rear end and not in the bag chamber, hahaha!)
