I spent 3 hours in a flea market looking in places 3 times all over the place, but what do i find.....NOTHING!! there was no and i mean no vacuums in the place
no handvacs car vacs uprights shopvacs canisters.. i mean nothing not even some bags or belts. Down here its harder than finding a needle in a haystack.. oh well ill have to try again.
I don't remember vacuum cleaners at a flea market here either, and for that matter, seldom do you find anything old anymore. I've had many dry days thrifting, going out of town and coming back empty handed. Hope your luck improves.
"Down here its harder than finding a needle in a haystack.. oh well ill have to try again."
That's the spirit! If it makes you feel any better, down here in Atlanta, my ratio of visits to finds is about twenty to one. That's right- for every twenty times I visit a thrift, nineteen of those times, I leave empty-handed. That twentieth time is what makes it all worthwhile.
Just keep visiting- things will turn up eventually.
Have you ever went out thrifting and found a vacuum but then couldn't decide if you wanted it or not? I do that sometimes and then more often than not I could kick myself for not buying it. I recently did that with an orange/white Hoover Spirit canister I saw at the Goodwill. I really like the Hoover canisters from the 80's.
Once when i first started collectiong and i didnt know much. I passed up a J.C Pennys convertable for 3$ at a yard sale. Instead i bought a Powermax. I regret ever doing that!
Yes i have it,but my aunt loved it... her Powermax tore up so i gave her mine... shes had it for 7 years now and still does. She lives all the way in Deleware.
Hi Dave I know what you are talking about here on Long Island- NY their are no places to go to check on old vacuums. It is very hard to collect. I find most of the vacuums out in the trash are just that TRASH all PLASTIC.Well good luck anyway Doug
Hi Charles No I say LONG Island the way it should be said. By the way i love your KIRBY collection. I have been looking for a 505 with a black bag for years with no luck.Maybe some day. Take care Doug.
God Bless You, Doug, for setting that straight!! I, too, am from LONG Island though I live in Orange County now!! And I, too, have had endless questions about how one might mis-pronounce the name, though I'll presume all good-natured, of course!!
I'd love to hear about 'The Island", where you live, and what you collect if you care to E-mail me! I am a big LUX and HOOVER fan.

Hello all from BALMY Cincinnati (21 deg. F the day I arrived!) Having a great time so far, the first concert was Friday evening and it went really well -- nearly a capacity house (seats approx 3500). Pix etc. to come.
Just wanted to address the LON GILAND bit - I used to have a friend who was from NYC and HE used to kvetch about how many people IN NYC mispronounced LONG ISLAND!
So, yes, my question was meant to be light-hearted.
I had one and really liked it,It was like a Concept with on board tools, the plastic housing for the agitator was wearing out and the buttons on the drive handle were starting to break. I'd buy another one if I could find one. Mark
