A friend of mine contacted me saying she cleaned out her storage unti and has a Kirby for me. I'm picking it up tomorrow morning! I have no idea what model or what shape it's in, but will post pictures when I get it home.

That's nice. Free Kirby is always good. Couple of new wheels, through cleaning, polishing should go easy (no big dents/scratches),.....I think you scored.

The Diamond Edition was even better since it had two more speeds that worked in conjunction with those on the speed switch. It took the form of a green LED illuminated switch mounted by the handle fork. However, that seemed a bane to some users due to its confusion with the BPI (brush roll performance indicator) light on the rug nozzle.

The lower speed, known as the Delicate mode, was only intended to be used on lighter carpets and throw rugs, just like opening the air adjusting plate on the 516 to Tradition models. It is not recommended to use this speed with the hose attached since it could overheat the motor.

Nice job of restoring the hood! I agree that you will be able to bring the cleaner back to its original condition.

Would you post a close-up of the nameplate? I'm wondering what its model and ratings are.

As you probably know already--Kirby began naming its cleaners along with its custom of assigning model designations to them in 1969 with the debut of the Kirby Classic III/Model 1-CR. I wonder, then, if the G6s--which were made from 1999 - 2002 (excluding the LE 2000 and LE 2001) were tweaked and given different model designations like the Aerus/Electrolux ones--or if both the name and model designation were changed when updates occurred.

I've seen a lot worst, most of that will clean up without and problem. It's good it's an Ultimate G instead of the Diamond, you don't have to worry about the circuit board.

I don't know who thought up 4 speeds, I see a LOT of burned out circuit boards. The switch next to the handle goes to a circuit board under the motor and from there to one of the carbon brushes of the motor. Funny thing after the Diamond Edition you don't see that switch on the Sentria, Humm, wonder why?

You're doing a good job of cleaning it up. If the bag is dirty you can throw the bag with the emptor in the washer to get it clean. Just don't throw it in the dryer afterward though.
