What a neat little vacuum. Took your advice and made a bid. We had one of these in the 60's/70's for use with the large commercial vac and it was great. But, I don't remember something coming out of the rear as I see in the picture. Do you know what this could be?

A quick note....

A couple of things that may need clarification for the seller and or buyer.

Firstly, this machine was also either made for Eureka by G.E., or was made by Eureka for G.E.. Under the Eureka guise I believe that it was sold under the name Whisk....?

Secondly, this machine will NOT accept current Oreck Buster B can bags. THey are specific for the machine and they are not available thru either Eureka or G.E. obviously.

The current buster B bags are too wide and have a square hole rather than a round one which this machine needs to operate properly. Using the BusterB bags, even modified, will cause the machine to suck dirty air thru the motor, causing damage.

That said, I have seen packages of the bags for this machine listed on E-bay before. You will need to get some as nothing else fits.

I have been involved with vacuums most of my life and feel I have enough knowledge to warn you. I've owned an earlier all grey G.E. version in the past as well as repairing machines for over 13 yrs. now. I'm sure another vac-o-phile who has more clout will agree with me. If not buyer beware.

This is just my thoughts on the matter...

Hi Chad, here is a picture of what's known as the Whisk. I don't doubt that Eureka made the MVs 1 and 2, that is an interesting piece of info. I definitely know the Oreck bag won't fit just by the visual comparison of the two. And it is a given that you have had much more exposure and repair experience than I have to various vacs, and the input is appreciated. Also, didn't these (MV1&2) come out under the Premier name also?

Yep....

When General electric left the fold in 1972, almost every machine that was part of the original GE lineup was continued under the Premier brand name that I know of.

I have a BEST catalog spring Summer 1974 that has a whole page of uprights and canisters thru Premier. The small MV-1 was included. The colors for 1974 were gold and white, for all models.

The only Eureka that I had ever seen built like the MV-1 used a later BLOCKY Eureka insignia, not like the more Cursivey script Eureka used for it's nameplates during most of the 60's.

The Eureka one was beige and brown also. Beige hose, metal ends, and brown attachments. I passed it up for $3.00 at a garage sale. I already had the G.E. version. THey too had crammed a Buster B bag in to the hole. The whole bag compartment was full of dirt.

Yes, and thanks again. I know according to my owners booklet I can use the cloth filter bag, or the disposable, but of course never with both, or never without both. I'd love to get the Premier and the Eureka models. The Orecks are quite common, three for me in less than three months! Would it be possible at your convenience to post some shots of the Premiers? I've seen a Premier canister or two, and was rather put off at the time, not knowing the story behind them. Also, the Whirlwind, the Premier clone-I want one anyhow, they're sort of ghetto.

I have to agree on the Ghetto thing. I saw the one "Whirlwind" on e-bay many moons ago, and it was fairly trashed. I believe the color looked mustardy yellow.

When I am able I will scan the pages from the catalog, most likely the next time I'm at my folks's house in Lansing. Her scanner works..... I do not have a scanner currently, or a digital camera. Both things are far on down the list of things I need to buy.

At some point i will ge them here tho. I have waay too many catalog's to scan and share to not .

EGAD....

WOW....well hopefully you can find the cloth bag conversion a'la Hoover PortaPower/Swingette. That would make your vacuum impervious to bag rarity.

I would dare say with some ingenuity one could fashion their own CLOTH BAG replacement or a VERY close replacement if one tried hard enough.

I've done it before for my Converto-Vac. It sucked but now it can clean.....

Just another thought..
 
I've had a few cloth only cylinder cleaners (or at least cloth as an option) and in my opinion they're no less hygenic than normal paper bags. You just need to hold them at arms length when emptying/wash them now and again. hehe :P
 
ge mv1 or mv2 bags

I have used bags for a fast vac thay fit good, but you need to trim off a little of the carbord on the sides. most vac shops can get fast vac bags.
