Hi all!! Just curious if any of my fellow vac buffs have seen or have in their collections, a GE with an original electric power nozzle. I have been told that there is such an animal, and that the pn had the same button lock connections as the regular GE tools. Any info is greatly welcomed.

GE VC751A

Hi:

Here's a link to the pages of Canadian collector Doug Smith, who has a GE VC751A in his stash. This model is from the '70s, and was made in the U.S. No info on whether this particular model was actually sold in America; models for the Canadian market often differed a bit from those intended for the U.S.

Premier

Years ago I had a Premier canister with a power head. I think the upper part was celery colored and the base a darker green. I loved that vacuum. Had I known that I would collect later, I'd never sold it to a girlfriend of mine. She loved it too. I guess that must've been made right after the transition from GE to Premier. Does anyone know more about that brand change?

G.E. vacuum tools

Sandy, you've solved a mystery for me and Toby, I found my mystery brush in the tools of the P1C14, a wide floor/wall brush and the floor tool "elbow", and my new VC24A floor tool. Also, not only is Premier vacuum the same type, there is one called the Whirlwind.

Alan:

Glad to help. I remember seeing a photo here recently of another GE with a power nozzle; it was Harvest Gold IIRC. I can't find it now, though. The power nozzle on that vac was more highly styled than the one Doug Smith has; Doug's is pretty utilitarian.

I had a roomie with one of those swivel-top GE's for a while, maybe 20 years ago; his didn't have the PN. I recall how frustrated I was with the lack of a power nozzle; it took GE a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to catch up to industry standards in that regard. Everybody else had one, even Sears- their Powermate vacs were setting sales records at the time.

G.E. Power nozzle

Yes Sandy, Doug's vacuum had a fugly power nozzle, for my G.E. someday I want the flat floor nozzle with the rollers and twin brushes, although the floor tool I got from Toby is excellently effective. I would like a complete Glade Green vacuum and tool set as seen in the Dec.'60 Holiday magazine G.E. appliance ad. Even though they continued that model for years, I'd love one of the original cleaners.

I Wouldn't Say Fugly...

...more like Soviet. Very utilitarian, no frills- as if the Commissar of Vacuum Cleaners said to design it for the good of the people, not for capitalist sales appeal.

I remember being a Stalinist..

Now I just want to run a large bureaucratic Corporation...

Think of the irony there chaps, and you'll be as smart as I am =p
