My ge range has 2 dead burners. I found replacements on amazon. I found some for $14.00 and $17.00. But they also had them for $32.00 and $38.00. Is there any difference? Both replacement burners fit a ge range. Is there any reason to pay more for the replacement burners? I can't figure out why some are so much more expensive. Are they better in some way? I would appreciate any advice from anyone who knows about stoves. These are the ge burners that plug into the range through the hole in the side of the drip pan.

tbh, I don't know anything about it, but in general, it's just a heating element. Yeah you might get more life out of, say, a GE oem coil, but is an extra year or two of service worth double the price? And then, as it's just a heating element, an item that's been manufactured for over 100 years, it's probably not really at item that a cheap chinese manufacturer doesn't know how to make properly, ya know? I don't even know the expected service life of a stove coil, but I personally doubt there would be an appreciable difference between the cheapie and the oem.

I would buy the cheapie, if at least as an experiment.

Original GE burners...

...said "Calrod" on the little plate in the middle. If both are "Calrod" units, they're the same and go with the cheaper one. Otherwise, follow MadMan's advice. If it were me, I'd just go with the cheaper unit and hope for the best. In my experience, those burners have very long lives, as in decades long. Hell, these days they both probably come out of the same factory in Shanghai or wherever, anyway.

GE burners

John! While you think the problem might be the burners, you should also check to see if the switches are bad. Do you get any heat on any burner setting other than high? If you do, it's an indication that the switch is the problem. The burner isn't always the problem!

One burner was dead when we moved in. I plugged the other large burner in that plug to make sure it was actually the burner that was broken. The burner got hot right away. The other burner blew out while I was cooking white sauce. That was wild. It flashed and made a loud pop that sounded like a gun shot. The whole range went out including the oven and I thought the whole range was burned out but thankfully my boyfriend discovered it had just tripped the breaker. Man I hate it when stuff breaks like that.
