I might be getting hired at my local vacuum shop in about a week.Do you guys think I should do it?Sounds like a good time, and getting paid!! Score! And in Oregon,if you are over the age of 14 you and your employer do not have to have a minor work permit. So i'm turning 15 early February. So it's very legal!

Yea

I think you should, here in texas you have to be 16 to leagally work so on saturdays I "volunteer" at our vac shop with whom we have been friends with for years! And if I sell a vac i get commision! Anyways I think its fun because you get to educate people about vacuums.

i need some volunteers in SC. Most of my employees are members of one of the local high school's robotics team...but they get paid. Maybe I need to introduce them to this forum and they can just volunteer to do repairs!

Best wishes on your new endevour.

Garrett, go for it. I enjoyed working in a vac shop. You'll have fun working on lots of different vacuums. You might even develop an interest in brands that you have never heard of or did not like before. I did. I had never heard of Fairfax until my bosses wife brought in a load of trade-ins. I saw a shiny metal 'thing', deco in design (I am a lover of Art Deco, love the 1930's atlantic liners) and said, 'What, madame, is THAT?'. After getting to play with the Fairfax I fell in love with it. It's still in my collection.
Good luck and have a lot of fun.

Thanks guys I am going to.Some people are jealous of others.Sad...I'm going to get to do all kinds of work there,Sounds like fun!!

Yes it would be nice... if you weren't lying... and ACTUALLY works at a vac shop... to even volunteer to work at any business you have to be 15. And my dad knows the business. So i think you should stop being a liar and grow up. Big girls don't cry. Stop crying.

You are able to work under the age of 14 only with a work permit. A "minor" is anyone under the age of 18. Prior to September 9, 1995, every minor was required to obtain an individual work permit, and each employer was also required to apply for a separate employment certificate for each minor hired. Minors 14 to 17 years old are no longer required to obtain work permits. In general, a minor must be at least 14 years old to work in non-agricultural employment in Oregon. There are special regulations that apply to the employment of minors in agriculture. In rare circumstances, the Oregon Wage and Hour Commission may allow younger individuals to work. Minors under 14 years of age may not be employed in any enterprise subject to the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act, in any establishment where alcoholic beverages are dispensed or served, in any theater or amusement park, in any work that involves the minor in canvassing door to door, or in any establishment catering to adults only. Parents may employ their children under 16 years of age in occupations other than manufacturing or mining, or occupations declared hazardous by the US Department of Labor. For more information, please contact the Bureau of Labor and Industries.

Minors Under 14 are required to obtain an individual work permit.

My opinion

You know what I think? I think it is great that you are going to get the job and even if you dont that is fine too I was 15 when I first volentered in a vacuum store and my pay was a couple free vacuums. The vccc is somewhere where we can share our stories and experiences and even if some people dont think it is true it dosent matter. You know how it goes: if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all:)

WHY!! DOSE,

Evey one think they have to be so mean too Garrett?? I think it would be WONDERFUL if he gets a job in a Vacuum Cleaner Shop!!! Best of luck too you Garrett!!!

You don't know garret. ask brandon,me, EVERYBODY ON THE CVC,including chad, evan, matt, etc. About garret. He rips off people and cries and DE friends someone if they dont trade him a vacuum he wants. Hes an immature little boy who should stop lying *as he is right now* and grow up. If you want to know more i can surely tell you :D
