**Garage Sale Find** Hoover Dial A Matic

So I found this Dial A Matic a couple weeks ago at a garage/estate sale. I was going to have to leave & run to the atm to get cash as I was out. But the very nice people who were having the sale said take it, enjoy it. They were wanting to get rid of what was left at the end of the sale. Their father had passed away & were clearing out his belongings. I told them I would be more then happy to return & pay for it, but they wouldn't hear of it. They were glad to know someone would enjoy it. It came with the hose, wand & floor brush. I added the crevice tool from another estate sale where I found a Regina PowerTeam electrikbroom, which I posted aboout in another thread.
The date stamped on the motor is June 28 1967. Model #1120 I am guessing it is one of the earlier Dial A Matics judging from the date & the differences from it & my other ones.
Can anyone tell me exactly how the tools should be stowed in the holder on the hose? Looks like besides the slot for the crevice tool there is another round hole for either a wand or another tool. The only other tools I have for my other 3 DM'S is a hose & upholstery nozzle, but no hose holder. Just curious as to how they were originally meant to be used. If anybody has pics of their DM's attachments, please share.

DAM att holder

Very nice Hoover.First DAM was 1963.On your attachment holder the 2 holes are for dusting and upholstery tools and can be attached to machine with 3 tools in holder.Then the V shaped area is to hang on nail or hook in closet.Then the 2 bumps at lower edge are for plastic latches to clip onto from hose end and retracted wand.Try this and more pictures.

I appreciate the explanation of how the tool holder is used. It all makes sense now! I will add the upholstery tool I have from one of my other DAM's & post some other pics asap.

Very nice dial a matic, i wonder what would win in a side by side test of this and the electrolux 500 series. The other clean air machine introduced a few years later.

Tyler you might have a point. However the attachments were with the vac at the sale in a bag hanging on it. I would assume that the elderly man who owned it probably bought it new back in the day w/ attachments. Of course they could have always been added to it from a porta power. Did the portapower have a retractable wand?

Actually those attachments are from a newer DAM. That model had chocolate brown attachments. The owner may have bought them later to go with the vacuum he already had or, possibly bought the vacuum used and the attachments had been added by the shop. Heres a picture of mine with the chocolate brown parts.

The DAM my mom & dad received as a wedding gift in 1967 was the exact same color with a chocolate colored hose, and attachments. It survived 20 years of hard use without a single repair until the motor shorted out and made it unrepairable. It served a 2-story house that also had 3 kids in it. What a workhorse!
