Funnt Eureka upright,

Those ESP's came out in the late 80's just as I closed my vacuum shop. Eureka was trying to make a new version of
the basic ESP upright. I always felt like it was a throw
back to the 1920's with the bag on the front. Then the
Hoover lite weights came out (elites) with the bag on the
front too. Oreck was coming to the vac shop too, trying to
get in the door for sales. All about marketing and market
share in the war of plastic vacuum cleaners !

These vacs had great suction, but that was part of their problems. So much suction that they tended to clamp down to the floor and because the handle fork was all plastic they would very easily snap. They did clean very well if u were careful with them.

I've never seen anything like them. I'd take and re-enforce the handle or rig up a metal handle fork. I just think its interesting. It looks like a Eureka 1900 series crossed with a Eureka bravo. Look at the bottom plate! thats the oddest cover plate i've seen.

I have one of the Ultra's, in the light gray with the triple filter bag, good vacuum IMHO, cleans like an ESP should. If it's suction is too much for the carpet, there's a relief slide adjustment on the front, I use mine on the medium setting due to plush carpet with a thick pad. I thought it was an ok design, different from the rear bagged vacs and with the Vibra-Groomer II brushroll, I'm pretty sure it outcleaned the Hoover Elites, and for sure the Orecks of it's time. There were different models with different features, and if I remember correctly, Montgomery Wards had an exclusive model with the switch in the handle grip instead of the base, either in red or a rust color, don't know why I remember that, oh well!
