Fuller Brush Power Maid first impressions

I bought this yesterday from my current vacuum store because my sister was looking for something that does an excellent job on pet hair off the couch so I suggested her to get this. It's normally retailed for about $80 but I got a discount at the store so I only paid $60 for it. So inside, there's a manual as well as the warranty card that comes with it which only has a one year warranty. It also comes with a shoulder strap that would come in handy if you want something that's alot easier to carry or put in storage. It's bagless which I'm alright with because it's not as messy to empty than compare to full size bagless machines, and It's got a filter that can be washed. The brushroll can be turned off when you take the hose out, the brushroll has easy access to inside the belt and it can be taken off to get serviced. It does have really good suction on using the hose, and it also has a dusting brush that can be twisted on to use. Overall, I think this is a great hand vac for someone I would recommend to with pets at a really good price. This does remind me alot of a Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac but this is like a million times better than the Ultra. So I'll keep an update on how my sister is really liking this.

If you reconnect the hose to the side of the machine, with the dusting brush bristles EXTENDED, the brush roll won't turn. Use it like that for cleaning dirt off a smooth surface like a floor. With the dusting brush bristles retracted, and the hose connected to the side, the brush turns for fabric or carpet cleaning. You'll see the little safety switch which the edge of the dusting brush presses when it's retracted - to allow the brush to run.

I had a similar one years ago in the UK. Chinese made. Goes under the name of Hometek Hunter and I bought it for my partner.

They're noisy, blow out a lot of hot air, not that compact and about the only use I got out of it was using to clean my partner's carpeted stairs. Also the back of the bin got in the way. I find a mini turbo brush on a vacuum cleaner hose so much easier to use. What I did like about it was the open sole plate - great for removing clogs like pet hair and the unusual roller wheel on the back by the underside.

2 part filter was a pain to clean though.

For hand vacs will stick with my Royal metal Prince or the DD Ultra hand vacs.You can use either with paper bags or dump the cloth bag.

Im right there with you! The DD Handy vac has always been good. Trouble is, they're very rare in the UK now. I did have one in the 2000s but it had a very short power cord on it when the first one I had (had a Royal faceplate instead of Dirt Devil) had a huge amount of cord. I know they sell ones in the U.K with a hard box and effectively fabric filter inside like a dust buster but I prefer the older ones.

The old school Royal and Dirt Devil hand vacs are like the best hand vacs I have ever used. My Aunt has a Ultra and I really hate that vac, the biggest problem we have with it is that, it chokes on picking up cat hair (even with a brand new belt on it). My sister really wanted something that's bagless because she hates buying bags and something that's quick to use the hose on so that's why I got her this. Yesterday she has been really impressed with this so it sounds like it's a keeper.

Ironically it was also on sale in the UK under a Dirt Devil badge - made by Dirt Devil Europe which was a different company to TTI Dirt Devil. Dirt Devil returned a few years ago to the UK with TTI vacs.

in the UK isn't the same as operating it on 120 volts. TTI Chinese knock off of the former original Dirt Devil and Royal hand vac's.

Nope, these hand helds have nothing to do with TTI and were first sold in the UK under the Hometek brand. The Dirt Devil you see before you is from Dirt Devil Europe which at a time was owned by trader companies such as Pulse Home Products and latterly Salton. They were made in China but not by TTI. Dirt Devil in the UK are now TTI owned. These motorised hand held are no longer available in the UK unless they are A) Old Stock or B) Sold under a different brand name.

I agree with Tolivac...

The Royal Prince model 501 is the best hand vac I've ever used. That's why I have two of them. My only complaint is the paper bags are getting hard to find. Since I mainly use it to get cat fur off of upholstered furniture (is that why they call it FURniture?), the whole shake-out thing totally doesn't work for me when it takes longer to clean out the bag than it did to suck up the fur in the first place. That said, it doesn't hold a candle to an Electrolux canister with a SideKick nozzle.

I remember when the Fuller Brush man would come to our door when I was a little kid. Mom would occasionally buy something from him and often he would throw in a little fingernail brush. There always seemed to be one by the kitchen sink back then. I guess these days Fuller Brush is another one of those ghost brands that no longer makes things but is owned by some holding company that just slaps the logo onto cheap Chinese plasticrap products to make them more appealing to consumers who might remember when a particular brand actually meant something.

RE: Reply #8,   Vacerator, 1000 watts in the UK on 240 volts is the same as 1000 watts in the US on 120 volts. A watt is a watt no matter what the voltage is. It's the amperage that changes, not the watts.

Looks like the Fuller vac has a rival; namely from Shark.
Goes under the name of " Shark Bagless Cyclonic Hand Vac, Blue, V15Z " On sale at Walmart...

I have one of those Sharks, it's never been opened or turned on. I've heard those had issues anyway. So I will update on how this Fuller Brush has been doing lately. Overall, it's a really great hand vac, she's defiantly keeping this because she's amazed on how powerful this is on pet hair off the couch. Only drawbacks are it does get hot very fast and the filter does clog up quickly. It only get used once every while so those shouldn't be much of a problem.
