I have a Lewyt 55 in excellent shape that I will give to anyone who is interested. All you have to do is pay for the shipping. I will include a brand new toe switch (not installed). The vac is hard wired so it does run. You can contact me at [email protected] if interested.
Best Wishes
Michael

Very lovely

I believe the early Lewyts are, generally, under-appreciated by collectors. When they turn up on eBay they rarely elicit more than a bid or two. I myself was 'guilty' of not caring much for Lewyts -- before I had one I didn't give them a second thought because I thought they were ugly.

Well, once I received a very lovely specimen and had a chance to really try it out, my opinion changed. In "real life" it's a wonderful machine and has great suction. The bare floor tool isn't anything to write home about, but the rug nozzle is awesome. And the machine is so quiet! It's about the same as an Electrolux XXX. Very pleasant sound.

I actually have two of them now, a 40 and a 44, both of them in excellent, near-mint condition. Here's the 44 with the optional wheeled caddy. And you can see more photos and read about how I acquired this beauty by following the link.

Nice Lewyts!!

I have a model 40 myself, and I agree--they have good suction, they're quiet, and underappreciated. I have a full set of attachments (except for the sprayer) and a fairly decent replacement hose. Only wish I had the instruction book.
Also have a model 90, the "Golden Lewyt," with only the hose, wands, and rug nozzle. Hopefully someday I'll get the rest of the attachments and an instruction book for it, too.

The blue thing ...

... is a moth killer. I =think= it was called the "SNUFFICATOR" !! It's made of bluish-purple clear plastic. You put moth crystals inside it, then attach it to the blower port of the machine.

Vacuum cleaner manufacturers surely came up with some silly names for this attachment!

See who can guess which makes the following moth-killing devices went to:

Demother
Insector
Mothimizer
Snufficator
Whirl-a-way
Moth-a-matic
Moth-B-Gon

But CHARLES!! You forgot the Crystalator!! Shame on you, being a Kirby person! :-D LOL!! Whirl-A-Way has got to be my favorite, considering that it is Air-Way! Which one used the Mothimizer? That is a neat name! Reminds me of how silly all of the other Air-Way names are! The Aroma-Pad was one of the not-so-funny names, so just imagine what the others are! :-P I'll see if I can find some names later. Thanks for that list! Very cool!

~~K~~

the CRYSTALATOR!

but of course!! I -knew- I was forgetting a big one!!

The Mothimizer was, believe it or not, Hoover!!!

Charles, How Could You???

How could you forget to put Vaporizer on the list when Electrolux is also one of your top favorites???
Anyway, the only ones I knew that WERE on the list were the Snufficator, Mothimizer, and Whirl Away. Demother, I think, was a kind of generic term several manufacturers used who couldn't come up with anything original, although Filter Queen called theirs the JET Demother. And here's another one for you--the Reginarator, which came with the Regina.

Vaporizer

I guess I am really losing the rest of what little mind I have left. When I typed that list out, I was thinking that the Electrolux version was called the Demother... hmmmmmm.......
