Hi CharlesKirby66

Actually, it's Alex, 'Caligula' was the sealpoint cat resting in my lap. He was the mascot for the VCCC when it was headquartered in my home in Naperville, Illinois.

As to the picture, I was about 5 when that was taken, I discovered it in an old photo album, and love it.

I have no idea why I put the hose of the Electrolux model XXX on the handle of the Kirby 512, but this was the way to use the hose on the upright Air-Way Sanitation system. No doubt my love of Electrolux and Kirby has continued, and yes, I still have both machines.

Why Caligula?

The name means little boots in Latin, and he was so named because of the markings on his front paws that looked like boots. I got him as a stray kitten in October of 85, and he lived till January 2004.

Hi vacuumlad1650

There's a model LX in mint condition as far as I can tell, on ebay, see Marketplace, only $35.00 or thereabout. What a geat addition to the collection if you can swing it. Have a look.

Good luck.

I really hope you get this as it has all the bells and whistles you need, and from what I can see, even the original hose. A note on the hose, don't expect it to be 100% operable, as it's 63 years old, and I'm sure the rubber base is crumbling due to age. (I know that at 65 I certainly am!) And if the hose leaks, there are members here who can fix that for you. Still, to have all parts original, that's really something.

So I have my fingers crossed, as you can then have the model LX, and the LXI both in the correct styles.

Keep me posted.
Alex.

Hi Andy,

Yes I did get it to work. Congrats on getting yours fixed. The suction on my LX is awesome. When I use the rug attachment, you can hear the air sucking in and when you turn it over, it has this loud noise. The hose plays a major role in this I believe. When I put a hose on it that leaks, I don't get the same suction. The hose pictured with my machine has no leaks. When the bag is almost full, I still get great suction. Good luck with your machine Andy.
