Found Electrolux Model LX - cleaned and fixed ejector

Electrolux Model LX.
Hi Lovelux:
That's one of the early models which dates back to 1952. Now all you need is the cord winder to make it complete.
I'm interested in knowing where you learned to repair the ejector as I've written several posts on that subject.
Of all my vacuums, the model LX is my favorite, and I've done extensive research in it, so if you have any questions or want to talk Electrolux contact me at [email protected]. By the way, my username is Caligula, but that's the name of my pet cat used in my picture.

Back on January 3, 2013 Powermate1970 posted a question about the 'gleaner' which is part of the rug tool for models XII through LXI. I responded to that question, and other members quickly joined in offering some wonderful information and great pictures. To locate it, simply go to vintage archives, click on 2013, and scroll down to thread 19227. But don't expect to read all of it in one sitting, it's a long thread and will provide several days of reading. I suggest you bookmark that thread, as you will most likely return to it to see the great photos.

I have the instruction manual for this machine. It came with it when I bought it.
In answer to your question, I saw Vacuummania's Post# 331598 which there was a link which brought me to Post# 34188 by aeoliandave and he describes the parts in Post# 34431, Reply# 13. The problem I had was with the catch pin being frozen as well as the hose being disconnected at both ends. Replaced the air hose and got the catch pin moving freely. Say it again, awesome site.

I forgot to mention that you need to click on 'forum archives,' from there go to 2013, and locate post #212375.
As to the 'Gleaner,' it's a comb for the carpet and used on most rug/floor tools starting with the model E. It was introduced with the rug tool of either the model XI, or XII. Back then it was a little box thingy on top of the tool, and went through several stages of development over the years, as explained in the thread.

In my search to repair the ejector, that site did return in my search results and I have read it. Interesting! By the way, do you know of a good online site where I can get the 'wrappers" for this LX? I also had to change the rear filter and I just used a felt type material used from air conditioning filters. Thanks. Appreciate your help.
I grew up with one of these LX machines. My mom had one and my twin brother and I use to pull it out of the box and pull each other on it when she left to go to the grocery store...lol. We were about 8 years old. To this day, I do not know what happened to it. They must have thrown it out maybe after it stopped working. Man, I wish I had it now.

It's too bad somebody went wild with the paint. The nameplate should be chrome. I'll have to see if I have two of them in my boxes of spare parts. Then all you need is the right hose, and a cord winder. I'll see what I can do about that too.

"Wrappers" was just the 1954 name for what we now know as the Electrolux type C bag, which can be found just about anywhere! I loved the old DVC brand "multi-filter" type C bags, but I'm not sure if those are still available, worth the Google though

The model LX was 6 years in the development stage, and one of the first to intruduce the disposible bag. Please note I didn't say 'the first.' Actually that honor went to Air-Way in 1920. Then Hoover jumped on the band waggon with the Hygenisac (exact year I don't recall.) But Electrolux perfected the 'full bag' alert system. What Electrolux wanted was a self-sealing bag, and created the 'wrapper,' meaning that the dirt was wrapped like a package. They used to advertize that it could be tossed onto a white table cloth and there would be no dirt. The slogon was 'see no dirt, touch no dirt, breathe no dirt!'
If you read the thread I spoke of there are members who address the issue of the rear filter, and I'm sure there are members here who have them.
I've already addressed how I got interested in the model LX, but like you, I was a child when I saw it eject, and it created an obsession with the vacuum cleaner.
And yes, I use my model LX as my daily driver.

All that is known is that Electrolux held a gala at the grand ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria hotel, New York City in October to usher in model LX. Thousands of people attended, all of Electrolux top brass, and almost every salesman and their wives. I have pictures of this in a three page fold-out in the book 'Electrolux the first 40 years 1924-1964.' Unfortunately it can't be uploaded here, but may be on the afore mentioned thread Lux 30/xxx tools.
All I know is that I was a little over 2 years old when I first saw it eject, and as I have a photographic memory, I still see it in my mind.
And yes, the one in reply 1 is that very machine.

'Electrolux the first 40 years 1924-1964,' was a book only available to Electrolux employees. As I was working for the company in 1968, I was given a copy, and I refer to it often.
From the early years Electrolux held huge gatherings at the Waldorf. From about 1927 till the mid 1950's every salesman in the country attened this convention. If I can upload pictures I will.

Vacuumlad, I used to buy HEPA cloth bags to cut up and fit as filters. Worked great!

While we find the Electrolux machines interesting these men did NOT! This was part of the job to promote the latest model, thus it was not a 'fun' night. Long boring speaches from the top brass, and the 'get out there and sell,' attitude was the order of the night. Also, most people traveled across the country to attend, and at their own expence. Air fare, or long driving, hotel room, meals, and so on was expensive, and they were required to attend this convention.
No, it would NOT be a fun night!!!
My reason for posting was to show the sheer volume of people attending, and as I said this was only 1 of 3 pages. (The other 2 won't post!)

I have differing opinions here based on personal experience as well as real stories passed down from one generation of 'the Friendly Electrolux Man' to another.
As to smiles what was wide angle photography like at this time?Could everyone have been told to look in a certain direction and be very still until the picture was taken?I have 3 similar pictures(different years) from the daughter of an Elux man who was there that would lead me to believe that all received a rolled photo in a mailing tube after returning home.
I have also been told by an Elux manager(now dead) who started in 1965 that he was told by salesmen who were there that they fed bits of cork to the NEW Mo LX and when they started ejecting wrappers the crowd went wild as if at a sports event.
I think at times the eastern half of US went to Waldorf & the western half went to an equally nice hotel in California.
It was my experience that all a salesmen or managers who won a trip only had to show up at the airport(or train station in older days) with a suitcase and everything was taken care of by Eluxes travel agency.
The NY trip would include a visit to the nearby CT factory and other shopping or sightseeing.And what Elux man and his wife would not enjoy a trip to the famous Waldorf Astoria in those days to hear about the newest products to sell and future prizes and trips to be won ?!?

All I know is what I read, and that comes from the few issues of 'The Electrolux News,' and 2 books strictly for employees.
Do I welcome ideas, and corrections? certainly! But according to the book 'Electrolux the first 40 years,' the Waldorf was an anual event with other gatherings around the country.
