I came across another usual (and rather massive) beast this time. This is an Advance CarpetTwin 16. This as the name implies has a 16" sweep and was mostly intended to be a hallway vac or for use in wide areas. I have to say this is probably the heaviest duty vacuum I've ever seen...this has build quality that would make my other commercial work horse,a Windsor Versamatic VS 14, or even a Kirby, look flimsy. I haven't weighed it yet, but I'm guessing it tips the scales at at least 40lbs. The entire base and handle is make out of very heavy gauge metal. This also is not a streamlined design so there is a lot of "wasted space" inside of it. The bag housing is made of plastic, but this is a very heavy plastic, I can't imagine what you would have to do to it to break it.

The bags, I have it fitted with a paper bag, and there is the cloth shake out bag as well. You can see the massive suction motor lurking at the bottom too.

It has an interesting brush pattern. There are 4 sections that are almost straight, they don't wrap around the brush. It seems to create a beating effect as they come around and whack the carpet. I love how my Riccar will vibrate the carpet so that soil in the carpet several inches out will jump out of the carpet. However when I put this powerhead to my carpet the entire floor started vibrating...to the point that I about knocked over a plant on a stand 5 feet away!

Those were awesome machines. I used one for years at a local grocery store my mom worked at. I would go early to help close the store..I would do the vacuuming...the whole store was carpet...built in the 70's

Very cool, thanks so much for posting this.
I almost bought one of these then pulled back feeling it was just too much of a monster.
It may have been an even larger model actually.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the pictures right now.
It was a second hand store that probably ended up selling it for $20 or less.
They closed soon after I saw the machine there.

Wide track Sanitaires, 18" Royals and the Hoover Conquest will have to sufice to quench my out-sized commercial vac thirst.
