this was setting in the trash waiting to get thrown away.i saved a kirby G7D.bag was full & hard & smelled like pet hair.i see why they got rid of it.i changed the bag & did some maintenance on it & now it's a good working kirby again.thanks to whoever for not knowing about kirbys.

I bought that model new when it came out. Traded in my Kirby tradition. Love the machine. Yours will polish up nicely. A new stiff brush roll will improve it performance.

That's a great machine. Polish her up and enjoy her. Tools and spare parts for those machines are fairly easy to come by. I acquired my first Kirby that way about twelve or so years ago. It was a Gsix 2001 Limited Edition, sitting out by a dumpster in the apartment complex where I lived at the time. It was a drizzly night and my headlights caught the word "Kirby" on the handle, so I had to stop and grab it. All it needed was a bag, a belt, and to clean out all the carpet fresh powder built up on the underside of the floor nozzle. I've still got that machine today and it runs like a beast. Interestingly, about five or six months later, I found a complete basic set of Gsix tools at a nearby thrift shop for about $4. I like to think I reunited them.

I had the same model

I was given that same model by my uncle, had to put in a new tech drive pedal but otherwise worked perfect. I got rid of it to hopefully find a g4

is that a hard & expensive fix ? when i run it the trans works but can't shift it.

The Tech-Drive pedal is easy to replace. There are many YouTube videos and Web sites out there to walk you through the process. It's pretty easy with rudimentary screwdriver skills. You'll need a Torx (star bit) screwdriver to take things apart.

Kirby Heritage I Belt Sub

Is there any kind of substitute for the Kirby belt? I’m needing one and I’ve only seen original Kirby belts online but I need one asap so I was wondering if it’s possible to use any other namebrand? Thanks for any info!!

Melissa, a Royal Style 8 knurled belt for the Royal Metal Uprights and Royal Canister Powerteam ( newer plastic style with HEPA Filter and Style R bags ) and Eureka PT Canister Powerteam belts will fit any model Kirby from the Kirby Classic ( 1970 ) to present.

However, DO NOT USE THOSE BELTS ON THE MODELS PRIOR TO THIS! The reason why not to is that the sleeve bearing brushrolls can become damaged by excessive strain on the bearings by the belt tension. They require a special softer belt that is ONLY available through Kirby authorized dealers. Certain vac shops that are authorized Kirby Factory Service Centers and some online sites may have them too. The same thing goes for any Kirby after the Kirby Classic - if it has a gray painted brushroll with sleeve bearings, DO NOT use the above belts I mentioned OR the Kirby knurled 301291 belt or you will damage the brushroll bearings!

If you want to save some money by buying generic Kirby Generation knurled belts, here's a link to some I found on Aliexpress. I have used these for years, and find they are nearly as good as genuine Kirby belts for a lot less money!
