Found a fairly nice trash find yesterday afternoon.

Hello.

So I was making a visit to my local vacuum shop that I trade with, just to pick up some supplies. I ended up taking a trip out back to see what was in his dumpster pile. I found this Eureka Excalibur sitting back there. So I asked Cliff what was wrong with it, an he told me nothing, he just got rid of it because he was sick of looking at it. Its in decent condition, minimal scratches and scuffs. When I got it home I plugged it in, and it is indeed working. Both motors sound good, just needs a bath, a clean bag and a new belt.

So now for some questions. When I was a kid, I don't really remember seeing these. But obviously they were made to compete with all the other clean air, twin motor uprights on the market at the time (Ie: The Kenmore ProFormance/Whispertone,Dirt Devil MVP Ultra, and the Bissell lift off, and the Electrolux.) But I would like to know what year the Excalibur was introduced? Also there seem to be two models that have the same features, just in two different colors. Which would be the dark green and the red. Where the red and the green ran and produced at the same time? or was one earlier and one was replaced with other?

Around 1995. Coincides with the World Vac canister era of the Eureka Company as it uses the same World Vac attachments.

I always thought this concept was great: a two motor upright that offers a brush shut off mechanism without the need for belt acrobatics or double belt pulley systems. I also loved the "quick-draw" tool conversion: by pulling the hose handle out of its slot, the Excalibur automatically shut off the brush roll motor and redirected the suction into the hose. In upright mode, the dirt had a shorter more direct route to the bag instead of having to travel all the way through the long hose as most clean-air uprights require.

The model never did that great in Consumer Reports tests. Also, this Eureka seems to have had electrical engineering problems: the on-off switch panel would overheat or burnout or something due to the heavy electrical load of the two motors, if I remember correctly.

Excaliber

These are about early 90s.Sears had them when they added products under their own name(not labeled Kenmore).There was also a Sanitaire version.They use Y bags but U is same fit.Same belt as F-G styles.Somewhat heavy and bulky.The 2 most common problems were probably clogs at the valve switching air from floor to hose and bad 3 position switch(for the 2 motors).

I couldn't tell you, but my 1996 JCPenney catalog has the green one. There was also a red Sanitaire version that's in the Sanitaire pamphlet I have.

I believe Brian is correct on the switch, I do remember that being an issue since these had two motors.

Does yours have the bare floor brush? I read that they came with one.

I remember this, the ProFormance and the MVP and the Lift Off. I always liked these designs when they came out, because to me they were how uprights should have been - with a brushroll shut off that allowed bare floor or attachment use and no worries about damaged carpet of linoleum.

I do have the red and white Lift Off, haven't really used it, but it's loud.
