Found a Drilux

I ran across this odd looking thing at a local thrift store and figured I'd pick it up to see what it's about. In a way it reminds me of Frankenstein's monster as it almost seems like it's made of a variety of different parts. The main nozzle itself seems to be based off the Tristar Turbo brush, The wand....i'm not sure who made it i found it odd that it doesn't have a button lock for the nozzle though. The handle reminds me of an Oreck buster B hose end....with a rubber cap over the opening.

They put that white cap over where the bellows would connect on the back, and the clear thing was to prevent it from launching powder out. I have removed both as I intend to find out how this thing would work as a power nozzle

This is a device for working Capture or Host dry carpet cleaners.You would spread those cleaners on the floor then work them in with this tool.After the carpet cleaner had dried you would then vacuum it up with your vacuum equipped with a new,empty bag.Often these spreader tools were rented or provided "free" to use if you bought a high end vacuum like a TriStar or Filter Queen.-Or this case a real Electrolux.

I have a new one of those also. I have never used it. Thinking of using it the next time I shampoo. Have never used capture before. Always used Kirby, Electrolux Dry Foam Shampoo.

Capture is a very fine powder that clogs bags easily, just a heads up. I have found it does give a little bit bet results than the saw dust based host type. I did my grandmothers formal living room which is 100% wool wall to wall with the oreck dry cleaner which is identical to capture. I have used several machines and every time I use a new machine you always see remnants of the powder collecting on the bumper and in various nooks on the bottom of nozzles, It just never seems to be fully out. I first used the central vac I installed at her place which is a vacuflo 566q because I knew how much this stuff clogs bags, and used every power nozzle imaginable and still getting stuff up

Intended Usage

I'm aware of what it was designed to do, however, I already have a great extractor. I bought it because i recall someone thinking about using the "pile lifting" brush as they called it in a standard electrolux head. I was a little curious about how it would work so i'm going to try to use it like a normal powerhead by installing a tristar bellows, if it does not work well i figured i can use the parts from it and an old tristar turbo brush to give it a geared belt setup.

I had a Dri Lux for several years and used it once! It was the older version excatly like the power nozzle with the neck closed off. Once was enough to tell me that it clogged with capture constantly and I had to gently bang it on the floor to remove the excess build-up. After that I went back to using the brush designed by Scott & Fetzer for spreading capture or host. I do prefer capture over host. Found out once that using the old formula on white carpets left them with a bit of a tint. Didn't try it again!
I personally would never use a vacuum cleaner to pick capture up. It clogs fast and a true cyclonic central like myVacuMaid P-350 or a Vacuflo is best. Just make sure your exhaust points away from the neighbors! Greg

I have picked those dry carpet cleaners just fine using a Royal metal upright with a cloth dump bag.Those powders fill disposable bags fast!!!Just reserve the cloth bag for that use.

We used to get Host back in the 60s for our Antique Gold sculped 501? Dupont I want to say wall to wall, it was IT back then. I shook out that Compact bag SO many times to clean it up, Upright would have been nice!! They did loan out great powered brush machines that did pick up the pile well and I LOVED the smell of that sawdust?? It didn't seem to do much for spots, but in general the rug looked better.
