For those of you that remember buying Royal's commercial metal uprights in the '80s and '90s, which kind of bag system did you prefer? Shake out or zippered (for disposable bags)?

I also know that until the late '80s, every Royal commercial metal upright could be had with either a 35' or 50' cord. I know certainly the wide-tracks (cf. 618, 620, 680 and 682) had a 50' cord as standard, and the last Royal commercial metal upright to have a 35' cord was the 654 (all the external parts were painted gray, a lighter shade than the trim pieces), which was replaced in 1989 by the 655 (also with gray-painted aluminum parts) which too had a 50' cord.

The picture below is of me at my former grade school. The Royal you see is a 1988 model 660Z.

Rex,

I have to agree with you on the Type B bag system, since the setup also has a black fill tube rather than the Type A version which you have to insert the disposable bag's collar at the bottom, and secure with the metal spring.

Both my 880 and 786 take Type A disposable bags.
