Someone from Massachusetts (a Vacuumlander?) has listed an Electrolux Model 20 (manufactured 1941-1942) on eBay. Some say this was meant to be the successor to the Model 30 but wasn't as well received which ended its run and possibility of its post-war production. And some say that it had been intended as the economy model to the standard Model 30 whose pre-war production had come to a halt with the U. S. involvement in WWII in December 1941. Whatever Electrolux Corporation's intentions were the Model 20 is indeed a rarity and would make a fine addition to any Electrolux fan's collection.

Photo #4 (notice the pattern of the serial id still used by Aerus today--2 letters with 5 digits in between and the 4.3 amperage--the Model 30s only listed the wattage, but the amperage would have been 4.1):

Rare? Yes. Worth $95 (or more) per opening bid? Depends, I guess, on how badly someone wants it.

It has a lot of issues, including the fact that the louvers covering the blower opening have been removed. That's also not the original hose, and all the attachments are missing.

I'd jump if the price were more in line with the condition and lack of accessories. I already have one, but a second would be nice to have for a parts machine.

The model 20 used the same flat filter as the model 30, however, it was placed between the end of the dust bag and the entrance to the motor. This is my model 20 with the filter installed.

For Sale: Electrolux (usa) model xx

Tom,
My grandparents bought the model XX new and theirs DID have the louvered doors on the rear of the machine. The fuller brush DID not swivel and neither did the rug tool. It came with a gray dusting brush and regular Electrolux metal sofa tool. She paid EXTRA for the radiator tool. The tubes were imprinted with Electrolux and the hose was a darker gray with ORANGE tracers. Maybe like the XXX there were different changes made during production. I sent Charlie a copy of the sales record years ago. I am almost sure the price was $49.95 and I think it was bought in December 1941.

Rob,
My example also has an exhaust louvre. The attachments that came with it are exactly as you described. I would love to see the original hose - the hose that came with the machine was a standard model 30 hose. Very interesting machines!

Perhaps the louvered exhaust doors were added during production. This machine uses a unique motor, it's nothing like the model XXX motor in sound, suction, or design. It cannot be interchanged. The rug tool and floor tool did not swivel. Mine has the original hose, but it's very much like a model XXX hose but a different color variation.

For Sale: Electrolux (usa) model XX

Tom,
As for me, the slight differences makes the collecting more interesting. You are right on in that as I remember their XX had a very different tone than my other relatives that had XXX's (of course I was very young but I always did remember details).
I was just thinking how my parents and their best friends both had 66 Air-Way's bought within the same time frame. One had black power cord and black rubber where the chrome goes into the machine. The other machine had a blue power cord and blue rubber at the same locations. Also one had a plastic crevice tool and the other was a cardboard type of tool and one had plastic sofa tool and the other had polished metal matching the floor tools. The hoses were alike but the tracers were different shades of the same colors. Both purchased from same dealer and location.
The earlier machine had the blue cord and blue trim and also had the plastic crevice tool and maroon plastic sofa brush. Both had the step on pedal and direct air exhaust on the bottom.

The big thing that this one on eBay has going for it is that it still has the original handle, although you can see it has started to crackle and disintegrate. The rubber used was an inferior compound -- the same material, most likely, as used in the later blue-gray attachment trim which also suffers the same fate. I hope whoever gets it won't ever try to carry it by the handle because it won't take long for it to come apart right in their hand.
