And here's a detail from a Hoover promo pic, showing the Junior Model 370 with its Jubilee bag. Even entry-level buyers could afford to be patriotic!

Hi Matt,

the black thing is an adaptor to allow you to run the cleaner from a bayonet lamp socket. All Hoover cleaners were provided with these adaptors, because even among those who were wired for electricity, many did not yet have wall sockets:

This is an original Hoover plug from the Model 700-era. It's made of hard bakelite, not rubber like the one shown above, and this is designed solely to be run from a lamp fitting. There's no 2-pin fitting hidden away on this one!

Further Comments about Pictures

In fact, Jack, anyone not in the know about Hoovers could probably look at the second picture and think it was part of the 2009 lineup. I really have to thank you for "turning me on" to the pre-war Hoovers.

Jubilee Hoovers

Jack,
Beautiful bag and machine. Only last Tuesday I was using my friends 370 with the greatest of ease and pleasure. I took over the pride of my Hoover fleet; my 725 which although I say it myself is a corker....light plug fitting, instruction book and unused box of dusting tools but sadly not the original type of bag you describe. He applied his commutator stick and it began to run as fast as an 800/825.

He noticed that I had fitted a 262 belt and told me I should have used a 612/912 belt...I thought that that size/type of belt only appeared in 1949 ?

Can you help to clarify this ?

Regards, Walter.

P.S. Nice to see a group photo of some of the UK VACUUMLANDERS !!

Jack, you sure look happy with that find. Sadly, youtube is blocked here where I'm living, but I promise to catch up on all the videos as soon as I get back home.
