I bought a new 5'x7' Mohawk medium pile carpet for vacuum tests in my basement recently. I wanted to see what vacuums had enough power to pull flour up through the carpet into the dust bag.
The test was completed with only 2 complete strokes (2 forward/2 backward) at medium speed right through the middle of the flour. I think this qualifies as maybe 50% total pickup? Maybe less since it seemed to just spread it around a lot.
This 1401-B was quite mediocre with 75 CFM at the nozzle. BUT an airflow density of about 3.6 CFM per square inch is very good. AND all this cleaning power comes from two motors requiring a total of 10.0 Amps @ 120 Volts = 1200 Watts.
Just for kicks, pic#4 shows the result after 10 complete passes. Slightly better, but still not great.
BTW, my thumb pointing horizontal in pic#5 is meant to be taken as a "Meh" rating. The Olympia One works great on everything on and in the carpet, just not under it.
