For all of the Royal / Electro-Hygiene experts available on this board: can any of you recall when the Royal 880 got the built-in deodorizing chamber underneath the deluxe headlight?

I had asked vacstars on eBay about the Royal 880, with the serial # of D82-D-55874 (April 1982), and he confirmed it does have the deodorizing chamber.

According to legend, the deodorizing chamber was exclusive to Electro-Hygiene branded products. By the time the brand ceased to exist in 1982-83, they must have relaxed the policy and allowed Royal to include the deodorizing chamber on its mainstream products, including the 880 upright.

I am also beginning to wonder if Royal had included the deodorizing chamber on their model 880 at the same time the motor changed from being 3 amps to 4.5 amps in April of 1981?

880

My Royal 880 from 1973 does NOT have a crystal chamber. My Electro-Hygiene 880 from circa 1966-1968 DOES have the chamber. Hope this helps for comparison.

As I said above

My Royal 880 was purchased brand new from the local vacuum shop (which is still in business) in 1978 and it has the deodorizer chamber. As a matter of fact, it is missing the cover for it and I need to find a new one. My machine came with the attachments and the original service folder. In the folder is the original sales receipt, and it is dated in 1978. Can't remember the month and day. I'll have to dig it out and check. If anyone wants to see pictures, I'll be happy to take some this week end and post them.
