I can think of a few people who would get a kick out of this...wondering if anyone else has seen a Filtex central vacuum as early as this one? I'm thinking early 1960's. It had the "pushbutton" inlets without the light, and the hose end twist-locked. The inlet valve on the front of the motor housing allowed you to use the machine as a blower (didn't do much good in this case; it was mounted in a little crawlspace rather than the garage).

They can't have made too terribly many of these. The earliest Filtex central vacuums I'd seen up until now were the more common blue/green hammertone ones from the early seventies, usually with two motors and a logo that says "Filtex Power Cleaning Systems, product of Natter Manufacturing". This one is called the "Filtex Perma Vac" and I don't believe the nameplate makes any mention of the parent companies (Natter, VSI) that owned Filtex in the seventies. BTW, it's a model S-300.

Anyone seen anything like it before?

Perma Vac

I came across your post and wanted to say that I found one of these units at a thrift store for $10.00 I bought it just because it looked so weird ,Not knowing if it even worked I took it home and let me tell you that Vacuum will suck a golf ball through a garden hose ,It has twin motors that both work and has a serial number of 98 In my opinion I wish they made today's vacuums as well as this one seem's to be made, It's as old as I am and works much better

Beefy unit-see ones like that here-some even have two motors.Suppose those run from 240V.If the unit was working---why remove it?KEEP USING IT AN ENJOY!!!!!Don't get folks these daysjust like on the Appliance forums they rip 'em out just becuase their old-so STUPID!!!

Do you have a picture of the hose and parts? Sounds like they used the same end on the central vac hose that they used on the canister machines.
