I rescued this Simplicity 4800 bagged vac from their dumpster yesterday.
Dumpster was full, but poking around on the surface revealed no tools that went with it.
Anyone know how old this might be? I am guessing late 80's to early 90's...
Bag is half full but does not smell bad.
Brush roll and belt are okay.
Motor sounds healthy and suction seems good - it sucked up some leaves off the patio okay.
Unit just needs a good cleaning - nothing nasty though; just fluff, dust, and dirt.
Also has sticker from All-Vac from when they were in Richardson; unit was serviced in 1997.

***IF anyone here locally wants it, it is free if you come get it from east Plano. Otherwise it will be donated to my friend's thrift store on June 14, my next day to go there. It will then join the Simplicity 5500B that is still there.

I also found a few other little things that will be reused or donated.
Still cannot beat that hardly used tablet from earlier this year!

I am convinced this store at Beltline & Jupiter trashes all vacuums that come in, as I never seen a vac for sale here. This makes the 4th or 5th one that I rescued from this dumpster....
This is more of a 'boutique' type place so that might explain it (but does not excuse them).

The 4800 was the lowest priced model in the new Simplicity line-up back in 1990. The 5000 series had already launched a year earlier. It was a decent replacement for those direct air machines that always broke their fans. But it didn't clean all that well, comparatively. We sold a lot of them because of the price point. If the customer traded in their old vacuum, we upgraded the power cord on the 4800 to a 30 foot cord.

Thanks Dysonman - it is nice to learn a little history about what I find. Looks like I had guessed pretty close for age!
Hope someone will like this for their collection (or for regular use.) It is too nice for the landfill.
