Dave, thanks so much for the information! I never knew that they alwalys came with the felt pad! I know that Kirby also include one. Just wonder if these were the only two vacuums to have this feature. Terry

Hey Terry:

In the Earlier years alot of vacuums came with either a felt pad to add to the rug nozzle for floors or a separate attachment with the felt bottom (Filter Queen, Kirby, Miele, Goblin, Regina, Viking, Switson to name a few).

Alot of homes at the time had hadwood floors and the felt pad polished the floor as it cleaned, unlike floorbrushes, which could leave scratches in the polish.

Considering the resurgence of hardwood floors I'm rather surprised that more vacuums arent coming out with felt pads again.

Doug

Air-Way also offered a waxing pad - theirs could be flipped over, to create a brush. You were supposed to use the brush-side to clean the floor, then wax it with the felt side.

Hi Doug and Jack, thanks so much for the additional information!! Very interesting. I hope that you both are planning on coming to Chicago for the convention in June!!! Seems like there are some great airfares out there now so it might be a good time to check!! Terry

Dave....

Have you seen a chrome F/Q like my model of the Toronto 1939 F/Q AS one person put it..???????. It is there" showing loud and clear".The pic is 6 above this post.

Thanks
Brad.

Brad, I've personally never seen a chrome one like yours, and it is gorgeous. It's been said here that the chrome model was a top salesman prize awarded by the company and that would seem to be the case based on the number that have not surfaced. One would think that stunning chrome Filter Queen 200s would be all the rage, like Fairfaxes, if they were a tol standard model for sale.

Aren't you glad now that we all convinced you to keep it rather than trade it to Healthmor for a new one?

Mine, which Pete gifted to me and I am still in the process of finding the rest of the 200 style tools, has a higher serial number.

I think you should replace the modern toggle switch with a push button style...the same one that is under the rubber paddle on the later style FQs. It's a standard pushbutton switch found on many other makes of vacuums like the Compact and even the Haley's Comet.
