Filter Queen Clamp Dilemna

I switched a older fq 31 model motor top onto a more modern brown plastic tank as the metal tank came to me with only one clamp & the other clamp is missing & I think the part missing that will accept it is broken so even if I had the clamp I couldn't attach it unless I rivet a base structure which is out of my capabilities.

So I switched the motor top with a bottom tank that had a mtor that's not sounding good but now I have one clamp on the plastic tank that won't stay close..its not only lose it opens. I tried my darndest to see how to make more tension on the spring part but I can't figure out how to make it tighter. the clamps are a bit long so they are not catching well on bottom rubber bumper.

I switched the dollys & its the same problem so I'm stuck unless I can make the clamp close tighter.

There appears to be some slight size difference between the pre 80's filter queen & the later mid 80's.

Does anyone has the secret to crimping or whatever to the attachemnt of the clamp to put it under more tension so it will stay closed.

If seems there are slight differences switching parts between these seemingly similar models/years.

Well, one clamp works under alot of tension & holds tight
the other is loose & opens by itself
Took a magnifying glass trying to see what was the difference between the 2 clamps & can't see anything but I played w the loose one by crimping here & there & got it to hold a little better but I know there must be a way!

I love my Filter Queens

but there are two things I don't like about them....1.the hose gets wrapped around the attachments on the top of the machine, and when you are vacuuming sometimes it pulls the vacuum over.. and 2. on the newer model Filter Queens you have that little red two speed on/off switch that you have to turn on with your hand not like the wonderful foot switch that you use to step on, on the older models...JMHO

to prevent the vac from falling over one of the casters should be under the suction opening. i read this in a fq booklet once, ill try to find it.

the older ones have a step on switch, and a little clicky for the speeds. fq should go the lux way and put the switches on the hose.

that makes sense as you pull the hose & its more direct to have the wheel lead, I usually do that but I have one or 2 with a bent wheel from shipping & soometimes you have experiment to find the best way to pull the lame ones

This one came in a box too small so it was squared
I did however by lts of bending & ha,mmering get it back to an almost good round & ther darn thing works fine
