You are so right

Steven , I too want the Renny/Guardian style style back with the R bags . It is a machine the deserves the price and top of line status . I also think at the top of line the controls should be on the hose not a cheap step on switch , does the Ultra even have a variable speed control ?

Dan, the Guardian Ultra does not have a variable speed motor. The Ultra doesnt have the cleaning selector dial to control when the machine shuts off when the bag is full, not that the Renaissance/Guardian models did either. However since they went back to the old body style, it would seem logical to put the dial on the Ultra so that it at least had the same features as the Legacy and not just look like a dressed up Lux Classic with plastic wands. Cost-cutting is probably the reason for the deletion of the variable speed motor, which can be added to the list of reasons why this machine is a step backwards.

Do all Aerus canister vacs use the same motor? Is the Classic any quieter than the Guardian Ultra & more powerful?
