I think I want to buy an Aerus Commercial Upright new from an Aerus dealer, and want to know what I should expect to pay fair price.

My local dealer clearly pulled some number out of her pocket when I called and said they are on special right now for $899...

I'm thinking a realistic price is around 400-500? I know the non-commercial one would be more toward the $1000 range...

Any input from you guys would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Well....

I don't think you'll get one at that price the shop I worked for had one in stock when I first started i've seen the order list and....if what I saw is what dealers pay, then 400-500 would be off the table completely.

I'm unsure the info should be posted to a public forum so I sent an email to you. I probably wasn't supposed to see the slip either but things happen.

Well I ordered it today, $699 no tax, free shipping, and a free 24 pack of bags. Will be here Friday, anxious. I do wish that Aerus made genuine Hepa cloth U bags and a Hepa after bag filter for the bottom of the bag compartment. Does anyone know who makes the vacuum motor in these? I'm betting the power nozzle motor is made by Johnson Electric, wondering if the vacuum motor is Ametek.

Otherwise I think I got a fair deal and the guy is super nice, highly recommend him.

Ray Satterfield out of Richmond, VA. $200 cheaper than my local dealer wanted.

Had to dig out my Electrolux throw I bought years ago off eBay, but only for a few minutes. :)

Nice throw! :-)

Andrew, congrats on the purchase, I'm actually also planning on buying one myself, most likely the other residential model. I'll keep Ray in mind especially if he ships out of state.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts and review on the machine at some point. By the way, did your machine come with attachments or are those a separate purchase?

As far as I know, I think DVC makes hepa type U bags, aftermarket of course but I do hear they are of decent quality.

DON'T USE AFTERMARKET BAGS! They leak dust and destroy bearings! I've seen it myself. You can always tell when a vacuum has been used with aftermarket bags as opposed to genuine Aerus bags.

I thought about tracing a template of the bag compartment filter onto a piece of Hepa Cloth bag, and cut it to fit along with the slits for the compartment ribs. A Kirby hepa cloth bag would make a ton of them. I'd like to keep as much dirt from going through the motor as possible since I'm going to be using the stock Aerus U bags. Maybe I'll try the DVC ones depending on how the stock ones filter. I read they only filter up to 94% which is pretty bad, and Aerus really needs to make cloth hepa U bags.

I'm going to do an unboxing video and first run cleaning at the bank tomorrow night, can't wait. I've enjoyed the Panasonic but it's been pissing me off more lately not picking up unless I replace the bag every couple of days. Colby suggested rigging the bag by propping it up with about 3" pieces of wood paint stir sticks to keep the bag from smothering the air inlet in the bottom. I spend more time going back over what it misses without a fresh now that the floors are always a disaster with sand and salt being tracked in. I vacuum about 45 minutes a night so the Aerus will make vacuuming at the end of my cleaning enjoyable again. I'm still going to keep the Panasonic at the bank for snow and rain sloppy days in the entry ways, no way in hell this one will go anywhere near wet carpet. Once in a while the bank needs to use the vacuum during the day, and I didn't mind that with the Panasonic. The Aerus will be going home with me each night. :)

I did not get the attachments, but will probably get them soon along with a 50 foot cord for it. There is an optional hepa after filter that goes on the side like the residential model but I don't see the point of that for the bank. All it will do is restrict airflow, and that will happen pretty fast since I vacuum about 18 hours a month at the bank, or approx 200 hours a year. And that's not even doing a full coverage vacuum, I do high traffic and under desks and visible dirt and then do a full coverage a couple times a month.

Needless to say, I no longer enjoy vacuuming at home when I have to. I think I'll check the carbon brushes on the Panasonic and see how much of them are roasted off by now.

I do believe Perfect makes a HEPA bag for this machine, someone also mentioned the V.A.C America bags and they are a good brand. I tend to use them in a lot of my machines and haven't had any issues of leakage. I also have used the DVC bags with no issues as long as they are the 4 ply bags, and also have used the 3M Filtrete bags. Regardless of any paper bags they will tend to leak a small amount of dust, unless they are the single ply in which case you might as well not vacuum with a bag. The Aerus bags are of good quality and I still have a box of C bags however I would much rather use the V.A.C America bags as they tend to hold up really well with maintaining the airflow.

Ray in Richmond is a nice guy, but I don't think he's too fond of collectors. I felt quite a bit of judgement while I was in his store once to buy some bags and Floor Pro brushes after he asked why I had a Renny style canister since they're so old. I guess he doesn't mind if we spend money on his stuff though lol

My vacuum came today and I can’t believe the build quality and performance. What an incredible machine! I vacuumed for an hour and a half and I enjoyed all of it. The bag already has some decent weight to it, and the carpet at the bank is noticeably more vibrant. The brush roll is pretty aggressive and the brushes extend pretty far and the motor for the brushroll sounds so refined unlike the old power nozzle motors.

I thought the 35 foot cord that came with it would be OK but I’m going to have to order the 50 foot cord soon. That extra 15 feet is very hard to adjust to after having the 50 footer on the Panasonic.

I’m putting together and unboxing video with some photo slides and will post it on my YouTube channel later today. I’ll share the link once I have it. Here are just a couple pictures of this beautiful machine before I put it to work. I almost feel bad for how much dirt and had to eat.

I had nothing but excellent communication and buying experience with Ray and we even talked about some of my collection are used to have and what not. My local dealer tried to rip me off by $200 over what I got for this one so anytime I need parts or supplies that will be coming from Ray.

There is one complaint I have - the U bags let a lot of fine dirt through and my bag compartment is already coated with it. Not real happy that it also went through the motor but it’s a commercial machine and while I will treat it with great care, it has a full duty ahead every day. Not really a big deal and if the motor dies in six or seven years it’s not really a big deal just for 100 bucks into it to replace the motor.

Personally, I've never liked the blue genuine Aerus bags other than the color. Based on through my technician experience, any lux that I would take apart if not all of them with a blue Aerus bag in it, I would see alot of dust covered not only through the bag compartment and the motor but also through the exhaust as well. And even performance wise, I've tested that the Aerus bags plug up quicker than the other generic bags that I've used. I'm betting that Aerus made these bags on-purpose to have their consumers service their vacuums more often at their Aerus dealer. But one thing that I still don't get is how come they don't make hepa cloth bags on their other models when they do on the Platinum? I seriously do agree with you on your other post, Aerus really should make hepa cloth bags. Otherwise, you could use bags that Proteam sells. So far, they've meet my expectations filtration wise and after all, they are a commercial vacuum company. But DVC bags I've also not had any issues with, I think those are the best bags that I've used thus far on these style of lux vacuums.

Looks great Andrew, cant wait for the video. I really dont understand how some people say that the original blue Aerus bags are better than the aftermarket hepa cloth bags..

Here is the unboxing and demo video. The vacuum is removing a lot of deep embedded soil that the Panasonic was not doing, and after about 45 minutes with the first bag the bag change light came on.

The best part of all though is never once did I have to retrace or back up over anything it missed, which I had to constantly do with the Panasonic, even with brand new brush strips, belt, cloth hepa bag, and secondary motor filters.

Looking forward to cleaning the bank tonight, and Monday is always a high volume day so the floors are usually very dirty.

Loved the video! I'm really impressed with not only the build quality but the performance.. that bag seemed like it was already over a quarter full after 45 minutes. Could you also see yourself using a vacuum like this at home or do you think it's best for commercial environments?

It was pretty impressive how much dirt it picked up especially since I’ve vacuumed the bank in the evening six nights a week for over a year with a Panasonic MC-V5210 Commercial Upright. Here is the bag I cut apart. I don’t think subsequent bags with fill quite as fast, I know this machine extracted a lot of the initial leftovers from the Panasonic in the first bag.

I plan to buy the household Aerus upright later this year for home, as it has an actual HEPA filter, headlight, powered hose with Sidekick, and the handle grip style I prefer.

This commercial model will definitely have a heavy payload of dirt to manage as it is.

The build quality of the vacuum is simply impressive.

Most of the aftermarket bags I see are made by AirPlus and sold on evacuumstore. AirPlus bags are the worst. You can see the dirt coating the vacuum when an AirPlus bag has been used. They chew up bearings and overheat motors.
