Ezee Kirby found

The story is almost as great as the find!
While visiting family friends in Hanford CA they took us on a tour of a home they just purchaced and plan to restore.
Home was built in 1906 and has been boarded up for the last 30 years. Pretty original on the inside
With lots of "junk" left inside. My brother who happens to be a Kirby salesman walked past the "junk"
He did a double take..he said wow that's a Kirby Ezee! Family friend asked my brother if the vacuum ment anything to him as he was planning on taking it to the dump...my brother responded with yes the was the first Kirby made in 1914 and NO DON'T DO THAT and take to the dump! Family friend gave it to him we pluged it in and you could hear something but the motor needs work. Haven't been able to find much info on it. Anyone have photos or diagrams? Are there any still around?

Did not find any tags and does not have a brush roll its straight suction...hummm can someone help identify

Yeah, early S&F and Kirby vacs were straight-suction only, brushrolls didn't come about until the S&F sanitation system I think (been a while since I looked at the history of Kirby, could be wrong), could be a Vacuette Electric though (the original, rather than the handheld jobbie sold in the past couple of decades)...

As for plugging it in to see if it worked, it's not a good idea, the if the bearings are like the outside of the vacuum, they'll be seized, the vac will need a complete restoration to make it work properly...

Yep its not an ezee. The Ezee was a tank type cleaner.


This is definitely a Scotts and Fetzer sanitation system, just missing its tag. Here is an original one my friend and I found in a local vacuum shop, along with a model C.

Hi, Are you sure its a scott & fetzer vacuum cleaner?
It doesn't look like one to me just similar. The Nozzle looks attached permanently. Also the front wheel axle looks in two separate pieces. Plus several other oddities.
There look to be a data plate on the bottom of the handle. What does it say??

Hello Sherry.

I was thinking the exact same thing(s) that James stated above. If that is a 'data plate' & you can clean it off, you may be able to decipher the 'mystery' of the true manufacturer.

If you L@@K in your brother's Kirby Proof Book, you will see towards the beginning, a 'random list' of models. It shows a photo of an Ezee.



On a side note, The Ezee (or Grasshopper), which WAS designed by James B. Kirby; however, it was NOT built or sold by the Scott/Fetzer Company. Scott/Fetzer did not begin building Jim's vacuums until 1919.



This is not to say that the above machine, couldn't be one of James' 'other' random designs or patents that he sold or licensed to other companies.

not an ezee

The ezee did not have a plug in... it was a hand crank model like the wireless vacuette. The first Kirby that plugged in was the electric vacuette enriching is what we're looking at here... two models after the ezee... still a great find though...

What it appears you have is not a Scott Fetzer or kirby. It may be a Royale Vacuum.

OP's account is long deactivated so this is for anyone who peruses this thread. This is a Universal upright. Granted an odd model that is different from any other I have seen, but the handle bail and wheel setup give it away. here is my more common model , E720.
